Chronic pain and medical marijuana

Posted by ladyjane85 @ladyjane85, Jul 16, 2016

A nurse friend tried me on marijuana oil smoked in an electronic pen since nothing works with my pain under everything pain management has tried. I did not respond - can one be immune to it as I am with all procedures on my back and all pain relievers

Dear Mr. McLanahan,

Please add me to the discussion. The one time that I used MM, I was beset by whoever was on line that day. I use opiods + MM. The opiods generally help with the pain. The MM helps distance me from the pain. Some people at the dispensary fear that Jeff Sessions will take away our medicine - and it is medicine. Then, he'll take away the opiods. I'm too old to find street dealers. Thank you.

@peach414144, we are glad you are OK and have electricity again. I can't imagine how frightening it must have been to be anywhere near the storm, so I am happy to hear it is slowly improving. The pictures were certainly jarring.

Hi, I have an autoimmune disease (ITP) and now have severe pain at R shoulder. MRI yesterday showed mild tendinosis of the supraspinatus tendon.
My history is that I failed steroid and splenectomy. A month ago when my platelet tanked to 3, I was restarted on steroid and 4 weeks' of Rituxan (a drug meant for lymphoma pt).
I will begin phyio and possibly oesopath.
I wonder if medical marijuna can help the pain and more importantly if it affects platelet.

Hello @cappysmith, I see you have been a member for a year and this is your first post, thank you for joining the conversation. If you are comfortable sharing, what was the cause of your platelets being so low? We do have a hematology group and page here on Connect if you are interested.

please try sublingual CBD it is from the plant, no smoking, no TCH so you don't get high. It helped a great deal with my chronic pain of nerve damage from a hernia operation.

Hi, where did you get your CBD oil from?. Thank you.

It all depends on where you live but, there are a lot of smoke shops out there that sell CBD oil. I would try to find one at a medical spa or online. I live in Fl. so, I get mine at medical marijuana dispensaries because it’s mixed with a small amount of THC. One thing to remember is, one dose won’t do it, you have to be regular with it, not just when you have pain.

For certain health conditions, non-THC marijuana is available by prescription from a specially-licensed doctor in the state of Minnesota. Very few doctors have obrained the license, and you must purchase from dispensaries scattered around the state.

In MN, your doctor will sign a paper to get sent it stating that you are eligible. There is some paperwork that you complete online prior to certification and then at every appointment. You pay for the certificate and meds out of pocket and it is quite spendy...especially when trying to figure out what works. A dispensary has both THC and CBD products each ranging with different levels and mixtures of each.

That is correct. I’ve been in the medical cannabis program her in MN for almost a year. While trying to figure out what if anything helps I was spending between $600-$1200/ month (all out of pocket.
For me, it may take the edge off, but if I try to use enough to really cut the pain I get dizzy (equilibrium out of kilter) no high, just cannot function.
Unfortunately, the one thing that helped (specific opiod -extended release) is no longer covered by insurance. My out of pocket would be >$3000/month. Way more than my meager disability payment.
Considering looking outside the US for treatments.
Knee jerk reactions and sweeping restrictions by the lawmakers have put me back in pain treatment more than 8 years.

FYI, I also have and keep trying anything I can afford (or not) just to see if they help.
I have a surgically implanted Spinal Stimulator, a DRG (dorsal root ganglion) stimulator that took 7 surgeries to correctly place (still only 20-30% effective after healing in place.
Far infrared sauna, biomat, Gabapentin, sleep aids, CPAP, physical therapy, nerve injections and ablations, etc.
I know most of these treatments work on most people. Just not me.

I truly hope and pray that all of you out there find the right treatment to relive your suffering.
Carl
