Chronic pain
I've been on Doluxetine for nerve pain after having stroke in December 2024, but so far pain is sometimes unbearable. Primary care physician suggested Tylenol 8hr Arthritis. How else can pain be managed?

Hi ! I have never tried Doluxetine, but was on Gabapentine. Gabapentine didn't work for me, but if you are not getting relief from Doluxetine, Gabapentine is worth trying.
Tylenol Arthritis is worth trying. Personally, I love it. It kills arthritis pain and the wierd thing is that I also get relief from my shoulder and neck pain. I also take Cyclobenzine 15 mg with the Tylenol. It works for me. If you take it at bedtime, it helps me to sleep.
Low dose marijuana gummies are also worth a try. It really works, but I stopped because I was constantly hungry and didn't like the way it made feel.
Good Luck ! If you dont mind replying, I am interested when you find what works for you!
Tylenol arthritis 8 hours is a Hod sent. But I do notice after a few days I feel really sick to my stomach. Just be careful

How would you describe your pain and where do you experience it? Is it burning, sharp, dull, achy, stabbing, pins and needles, etc.?
Are you working with a neurologist and pain management clinic? If not, that may be good for you to look into. If you have joint/muscle pain, you may want to see a rheumatologist or orthopedic doctor.
Are you doing rehabilitation post stroke? Have you lost functionality anywhere?
Depending on the type/source and location of your pain, there are various medications, supplements, steroid injections, topical pain patches/creams (like lidocaine or Voltaren gel), massage, acupuncture, etc.
You may also benefit from working with a psychologist who specializes in helping those with chronic pain.
I've been taking a high dose of Gabapentin for a few years now to dull the pain in my feet, along with ALA(alpha lipoic acid). The pain is always there, but it's mostly bearable.
I don’t know exactly what kind of pain you are experiencing but I have had over 20 surgeries on my spine and without my pain meds I would be in constant pain. I take duloxetine too. In addition I take a low dose of morphine every day and if my pain gets worse I have percocet to take for severe pain. I take 15mg. of extended release morphine 3 times a day. I tried to go without the morphine and I start experiencing pain so I stay with it. It is such a low dose that I don’t experience any side effects such as sleepiness or dizziness, I feel nothing at all. I just know that it prevents any pain from occurring and it allows me to live a normal life. You maybe should consider asking your physician if a low dose of morphine would help with your pain.
Hi. I deal with different types of pain each day. I used to take Duloxetine but just weaned it off to save my kidneys. I am seeing a pain specialist and am scheduled for an injection to treat my Trigeminal Neuralgia. I am trying to stop taking Carbamazepine because it lowers my sodium level too much.
This doctor would treat my other pain as well. I have an inflammatory disease and different kinds of neuropathy. The usual treatments doesn’t work on me. That’s who I would recommend for you if you had tried all these routine treatments and still suffering.
I understand what you’re going through. I know that suffering. I hope that you find help and get relief. Take care.
There are many pain relievers available, most of them opioids.
If you can manage with Tylenol you are doing very well and don’t need to consider opioids!
God I wish Tylenol would help me!! I am still trying various pain medications (opioids) but still have not found anything that can help the severe lower back and leg pain that I unfortunately have to live with.
Gabapentin helps the neuropathy in my feet a bit, but I’m still in a pretty bad way.
I read all submissions and try the various suggestions that my pain doctor will allow.
So far, my life is ruled by constant severe pain.
@elainestewart48 If the pain you’re describing is from your spine you’ll need some type of traditional pain relief. You don’t say whether or not you’ve had diagnostic workup for a diagnosis. A pain doctor will not treat you unless you’ve been worked and they know what your issues are.
My back issues apparently are primarily caused by osteoarthritis and scoliosis. I unfortunately don’t know which disks are affected, because I don’t think that’s even relevant anymore.
My pain doctor has just started me on Suboxone.
Although it is primarily a medication to help people withdraw from opioid addiction, it has been found, off label, to be helpful for pain management.
I started with a very low dose to see if I could tolerate it and I did fine.
We are now increasing the dosage gradually so I will by late next week be taking four pills a day. I don’t know what the strength of this medication is.
Has anyone else tried Suboxone?
I’m desperate to get pain relief. I have no quality of life anymore. If I can’t soon get some help, I’m going to use MAID and just give up.
Anyone who has used Suboxone and has had good results, please leave a message.
I’m also using 50 mcg of Fentanyl patches.
Please go to pain management. Anyone doctor who suggests Tylenol for pain has no idea of what chronic pain is like nor of the ineffectiveness of Tylenol for that level of pain. If Tylenol worked that well we wouldn’t have pain management doctors in business.
