Chronic head pain and eye pain / chronic headache
I am a 52 year-old male. I have had chronic head and eye pain for 22 years now. Twenty-three years ago I was involved in a motor vehicle collision and I hit my head on the roof of the car. When my head and eye pain started, it never stopped. It's been 24/7 from the beginning. The head pain is mostly on top and the back of my head. The sharp eye pain is usually in my left eye, however sometimes it is in my right. I have tried a variety of migraine medications, anti-depressants, anti-convulsants, and several other types of medications. I have had nerve ablations on my neck, migraine surgery (nerve decompression surgery), and did a trial of a nerve stimulator.
More recently, my head muscles have tightened causing even more pain. My daily pain is a 8/10 or 9/10. Excedrin used to be my wonder drug. Now it barely takes the edge off. None of the medications or procedures helped. I have Hashimoto's disease however my Endocrinologist does not think my pain is related to my thyroid issues.
Please help!!

Welcome to Mayo Clinic Connect @bkmdan3. You've sure been through a lot since that car accident 23 years ago. That is really tough that your pain medication now barely takes the edge off and you have 8 or 9 out of 10 pain.
When you were treated with migraine medications, anti-depressants, anti-convulsants, and several other types of medications, were you given a diagnosis or a tentative one? If so, what was the diagnosis? How are you functioning day to day with work, home responsibilities, etc., with that level of pain you mentioned?
