Chicken or egg: mental or physical illness

Has anyone found an advocate or program that can help get me comprehensive diagnostics?

I'm struggling with long-term, treatment-resistant depression, anxiety, and sleep disorders that have led to years of unemployment and now a marriage separation. I've been in therapy for years and keep trying medications and practices, then finding that they don't help and/or cause intolerable side effects.

I've also had physical symptoms for many years that have yet to be fully resolved.

I've recently tested positive for a blood disorder, and hormonal changes have definitely made things worse, but I have also been told I have CPTSD and am probably neurodivergent.

I don't know if my physical symptoms are caused by neuro or psychiatric conditions, or my mental health issues derive from continually feeling bad physically, and it's so hard to find help. Our medical system is such a mess that I have to take finding answers and treatments on myself, when I am so overwhelmed and exhausted that I can barely function. I checked myself in for inpatient psych treatment once and cannot do that again, emotionally or financially. I am trying to get appointments with a neuropsychologist for testing and possible electric or electromagnetic brain stimulation, a sleep specialist for testing, and perhaps someone like an endocrinologist to determine what's going on with me. It's very hard to initiate reaching out, and very hard to experience finding that doctors don't take my insurance or don't have appointments available for months out, if at all. This is especially difficult now when I'm not sure if my marriage will end, and I will lose my insurance and financial support.

At this point, it feels like the only reasons I'm alive are that I don't want to cause those who care about me pain, and my dissociation, exhaustion, and fear of suffering or failing keep me from acting on my S.I. I really am trying to get better, and I'm willing to pursue a diagnosis if it could get me helpful treatment (or even just temporary or long-term disability benefits) despite my fear of what the present government administration might do with whatever goes on my record, but I can't get through this on my own. Any suggestions on where to find help would be greatly appreciated. Thank you.

How long have you been suffering? I really feel for you and can empathize as I have had similar feelings and experiences.

What type of doctor diagnosed you with a blood disorder and what type is it? Are you receiving any medical treatments or medications currently?

Were you ever evaluated by a psychologist? Were you assessed for ADHD, Autism, anxiety/depression, OCD, etc.? Did they provide you with a psychological assessment report with diagnoses and recommendations for treatment?

What state are you in and what coverage do you have?

I am a divorced single parent of a teen who has ADHD and my ex husband has ADHD, Autism and possibly early onset Alzheimer’s so I have some experience with neurodivergence.

What physical symptoms do you have now? What doctors and specialists have you already seen? It is quite difficult to get a doctor that looks at you holistically and can handle multiple symptoms. Many doctors I have seen want to only focus narrowly and if you mention a symptom that doesn’t fall within their perceived area of expertise, they stop listening and connecting the dots.

Don’t give up trying to get proper diagnoses and treatments. You matter. I have experienced what you are going through and you can make it. You need to focus now on caring for your mental and physical health. For you to get onto disability, you need to first be properly diagnosed and treated. The current administration will not stand in the way of people who are legitimately disabled who qualify from getting disability benefits. You should read about what qualifies you for disability and see if you can qualify for Medicaid/supplemental income to see you through. Find out as much as you can about the resources available to you locally and fully take advantage of them.

You may need to first take care of your mental health so you can then take care of your physical health. If you are experiencing hormonal changes like I did while going through perimenopause and menopause, know you are not alone. These hormonal changes are significant and can really make you go into deep depression. If you need hormonal therapy, seek out help for this by an endocrinologist.

Many people dismiss holistic treatment as New Age nonsense. Maybe crystals, talismans, and sage cleaning are nonsense, but at the heart of ( W)holistic treatment is the mind/body connection. They are inextricably intertwined. If I think or talk about ghost pepper spice, my tongue contracts, saliva runs, I get flushed and sweat. Not a pepper in a mile. My body is reacting to mere thought.(Be careful what you think).
If I get food poisoning or the flu, my brain doesn't work. I can't think. I might hallucinate.
They "talk" to each other.
Trauma, either acute or chronic can throw off one or both systems for a long time c ptsd? Being out of whack mentally can result in physical symptoms, real or imagined. (The repressed stuff in your unconscious keeps distorting your perceptions and thinking, which may make you behave weird (staying in fight or flight, paranoia, anger etc.) and be rejected, which compounds the condition). The resulting physical conditions, like illness, corrode qol which then cycles into withdrawal, anger, anxiety, depression, addictions, and even suicidality. Not a healthy loop. The adrenals, hypothalamus, amygdala, and vagus nerve get into the act. Gotta calm them down.
So, rewinding the video, where were the insults, hurts, and traumas? What started the cycle of upset and illness? How can it be treated? Good talk therapy. The proper meds (mind and body). Disciplined exercise in a form you enjoy. Hours of just sitting (not necessarily meditating, just sitting - shikantasa) watching your thoughts till there are none. No alcohol. Limited caffeine. No to sugars (carbs), fats, and salt (Macdonalds).
And find your gratitude. It takes a long time depending on how much damage there is, when it started, and how long it's been going on.
As in Good Will Hunting "It's not your fault."

One of the best therapies for symptoms such as yours is ACT (acceptance and commitment therapy). Find a therapist that is skilled in this approach. I think it will really help. 🙏🏼

Trauma is behind physical and behavioral issues. The question then becomes not what did you do but what happened to you.

There’s no such thing as mental health.

What we perceive as mental health is simply the behavior constructed by our physiology. Human beings are product of their physiology or their biology if you will and their environment.

All behavior is conjured and executed in the brain. The brain is part of our biology. If it isn’t healthy, has experienced trauma is medicated or some other way retarded for making healthy decisions the body will experience the trauma. It can be no other way.

What we do have and it seems to be that we are the only species that has it, is the ability to choose, but we cannot choose what we do not know that’s where the environment comes in.

I have been profoundly ill for 15 years as a result of a misdiagnosis by a psychiatrist. I have recovered completely body mind and spirit.

It’s taken 18 months of suffering, research, introspection, prayer, meditation, exercise, dietary changes, and now the change of my physical environment. We cannot thrive if our biology, the physical being that navigates this universe, is not healthy and strong.

If you are suffering from chronic pain, sadness, trauma, deprivation, judgment, rejection, exclusion it’s very difficult to get better. I’m not sure exactly how I got better other than I pointed myself in the direction of trying to get better and more than anything else I rejected the voodoo being pushed on us by the psychiatric profession. Now marketing their products as ways to relieve pain.

Convincing the brain is not in pain is no more beneficial than convincing it that the body is not hungry with GLP one receptors. The body heals itself far better than some chemical design to create dependency.

That is not to say that they’re aren’t medications that can make tolerating pain, dealing with trauma and processing more tolerable and effective. They are best used in conjunction with helping the body heal itself.

Some conditions that I have, and that others have from genetics or from the assault of society and the poisons that we have constantly subjected, to that will never go away. I can however, treat them as effective as possible if I call correctly identify what’s wrong.

“Mental” refers to behavior judged good or bad. It is not a cause to be treated but the presentation of underlying issues. The rest is marketing. Get better need truth and intention.

For me that begins with what I refer to as the four pillars of alignment, healthy body, healthy mind, healthy spirit, and healthy environment. When these for are Aligned I thrive.

I wish in peace and good health all the days of your life

Dear @perinormal
I saw struggling, anxiety, bad sleeping and on… of mental & physical problems…

The word “mental” problems is horrible… of what? Come on, most of us has “mental” problems like: little sleeping or being anxiety of feel - all of us feels all that or some of these. What’s “normal” feeling? Sometime I feel “normal”, but falling down hurts my leg cause a “physical” problem and I can’t stand-up causes I’m “mentally” mad… I’m sick of these…

Take your time, specially your needs of good friends or at your church… someone gives you a better way to redo or fixing you needs that you can understand of your mind…

I wish the best to you,

It sounds like you are overwhelmed and that is understandable. I agree taking care of any stress or anxiety can help you make good decisions. I have a family member and a friend who applied for disability insurance and they received it. So you could start the application process. It may take a while but it may be a way to get some answers. The unknown has s difficult and there is is success when you use several advisers. You could also check out services available in your local area. Sounds like a lot, but one step at a time so you aren’t overwhelmed is what has helped me to get through the weeds. Another way to help get through this is by keeping a journal of steps you are taking and results. This can help you see that you are accomplishing something and help keep you organized. Also if you can try to find things that you enjoy and do them, it’s amazing what that can do for your wellbeing. Don’t give up😀

I am actually quite good. I have managed to recover fully; body mind and spirit.

I’m now committed to try to shine a light on the path that can help us all heal and to hold those that have made us all so sick accountable.

I wish you peace and good health all your days
