Chia seeds are fiber, and too much fiber can definitionally plug me up. Any sort, metamucil, gotta start out with minimal, slow, they probably are not sticking in the diverticuli, there's mixed information about nuts doing stuff like that. But things like popcorn, etc, anything like that, chia seeds, is usually find and a good thing, but start out slow and easy, try a half a teaspoon of chia seeds, one day, half the next, for a week, then a teaspoon as your GI gets used to the fiber and slowly increase it. Second, if you have any sort of an obstruction or adhesion, constriction, kink or pinch in your bowels, small bowel or bend at the splenic flexure area, any sort of fiber can get stuck in the tight spot, so be careful, and maybe ad a little castor oil to help things slide through. Good luck!

Soaking them will lessen any negative reactions for most. Plus, at a quarter cup or so, not a hefty amount in the diet.
