Changed from Jardiance for Diabetes/Kidneys to Kerendia

Posted by franco39 @franco39, Apr 19 2:12pm

Hi
I live in Toronto Canada and recently had been on Jardiance for 4 months for diabetes/kidneys. I found the side effects were extreme for me and my nephrologist changed them for me. I just two weeks ago started taking 10mg daily of Kerendia something new he told me. So far so good however i am feeling fatigued which is one of the side effects - and a bit of loose bowel but seemingly cleared up in that area.
Has anyone taken this for a long period? What side effects and how did they affect you. I am 84 years old male - in relatively good health
to this point - and would like to find out more. I also have some arthritis now happening in both hands as well. thanks for your interest. Frankie in Toronto

@franco39 I’ve been watching your post for a few days. I am familiar with Jardiance but have never heard of Kerendia. As you probably already know, all meds have side effects. Hopefully you will adjust to those of Kerendia soon. How are you feeling now?

Hi
Thank you so much for your nice note. Jardiance gave me so many side effects i could not take it anymore. Kerendia is a new one and it is now only two weeks and giving me terrible fatigue/lethargy many days i have no energy at all. I am seeing my own Dr. tomorrow about it - and spoke to pharmacist today at length. She said it has lots of side effects as well. I know these things have side effects but I cannot function like this forever - they cannot tell me when the side effects will subside.. even the Nephrologist who i see. Now they only see you every 6 - 8 mos or a year
it is getting terrible. We get old and suffer and cannot get proper visits to specialists only your Dr. can refer you and then it may take a year or more...if your lucky. Today was a bad day i could not do a thing just sat around - doing nothing went for a short walk but got so tired i came home and had a nap. It is nice to chat with others i thank you for this. R you on any meds for Diabetes/Kidneys? Take care talk soon again Franco

@franco I hope your Dr. appointment goes well and you get some answers and solutions to the side effects problems you are having.
I will try to answer your questions. I’m 67 years old. I was diagnosed with type 1 diabetes at age 18 and started insulin. Over the years after that I got married, had 2 high risk pregnancies but got 2 beautiful daughters. I developed complications of diabetes: neuropathy (peripheral & autonomic), retinopathy and mild kidney disease. When I was 48 I had a pancreas transplant. I was not “cured” of diabetes but the complications were improved and the diabetes was stabilized. It had a very good run for 11 years. I think the transplant started to wear out! My complications started to return and worsen. The kidney problems advanced to chronic kidney disease (CKD) stage 4. I see endocrinology quarterly. My doctor and a nurse practitioner alternate seeing me. I am on a continuous glucose monitoring (CGM) device and an insulin delivery system device (insulin pump). The same thing happens with nephrology, quarterly visits to the doctor or nurse practitioner. They have me on 2 blood pressure medicines and a diuretic. I also take a statin for cholesterol and immune suppression to prevent rejection of the transplant. I have an injection every 6 months for osteoporosis. The providers have also recommended over the counter (OTC) vitamins, minerals and antacids depending on my labs.
It all seems like a lot at times but I try to be grateful to be here. I am a Christian believer and try to remember that God has a purpose for me. I try to cooperate.
