The prevailing thought on cochlear implantation is that the procedure should be considered far more often for people who are diagnosed with severe/profound levels of hearing loss. CIs have been done since the 1980s, but were considered 'experimental' during those early years.
The National Institutes of Health indicates there are 48 million Americans of all ages who experience hearing loss. Worldwide that number expands to over 450 million.
While CIs are not 'perfect', they are amazing...says 'me' who has been implanted since 2005. Celebrating the millionth cochlear implant is a milestone!
Feeling blessed to be one in a million! 🙂
