CBD oil and depression/anxiety

Posted by lalyfa @lalyfa, Feb 24, 2018

I am curious to know if anyone has had success with CBD or Hemp oil helping with depression/anxiety? I’ve been reading a lot about it and am curious.
I’ve been reading about this and am very interested but would like thoughts/opinions from anyone who has actually tried it or knows someone who has. TIA

Thank you,
Laura

To @rascal 1. Thank you for giving the details I asked for. I have suffered from many of the illnesses and traumas that you have faced. The drugs that you are taking are so strong that CBD oil is unlikely to help dramatically. If you still want to take it, do so with the permission of your doctor. There is probably no harm in taking it, but don't expect significant improvement. But please don't try to withdraw from Xanax just now. It is unlikely to be successful because you have recently faced many traumas and stresses in your life. Your doctor is right in treating your depression more aggressively because if your depression comes under control, your anxiety will automatically be reduced. Depression and anxiety are two sides of the same coin. The long-term treatment of generalized anxiety is antidepressants, though sometimes it may be necessary to add benzodiazepines on a long-term basis. Your doctor is right in increasing the dosage of Zoloft to 200 mg. It is likely to help you. I just have one question: Do you tolerate Zoloft well? Many people are not able to do so. It would be a good thing if you are able to tolerate high doses of Zoloft. Hope my opinion helps. Regards.

My 31 yr old son who suffers from anxiety, perseverative thoughts and autism has been on CBD tincture for past 5 months. He was on 5 different psychiatric medications prior to starting on CBD to control irritability, anxiety, aggression toward himself and others, perseverative thoughts ..With his psychiatrists advice regarding reducing the medications slowly, I have first removed Guanficine, then Clonazapam (clonipin) and am now weaning him off of Invega 9an atypical antipsychotic). His staff and myself have seen a big improvement ie less behaviors, less anxiety, better mood, no aggression, . He is doing better than he ever did on the 5 prescribed medications (poly pharmacy can be problematic because of long term side effects) . Currently he takes about 20 to 1 CBD tincture every 4 to 6 hours and about 2 to 3 times/day. He is currently taking Myriams Hope but also had success on Sweet Jayne, Care by Design. You can google these. Best to find a reputable company and consistent product but understand that product will vary a little because CBD is made from plants I also went to a nurse practitioner who specializes in CBD for psychiatric issues, seniors with alzheimers , pain and cancer issues to learn more about dosing , Rule of thumb, start slow and go slow in taking CBD to address anxiety. long term goal for my son is to have him off most psychiatric drugs because there are no side effects to CBD that we know of and also he is doing better than he ever did. this is a much better option. Only problem is cost, Medicare and Medicaid will not cover it all. Sad situation because the CBD has so far been more effective and is much less costly than the poly pharmacy he was taking. Also recommend taking daily data on target behaviors or issues you are hoping CBD will address e.g. restlessness, irritability, sleep, change in behaviors related to anxiety or depression. Happy Thanksgiving

about 10mg CBD to 1 mg THC. I started seeing results in the first week. First I tried the CBD and then slowly started lowering the other meds. Nurse practitioner has told me to raise the CBD level as I lower the psych med. It all needs to be done slowly INMHO.

Does the THC mix make him high?

REPLY

No, the THC is so little that this combination is not psychoactive I have heard that a tiny amt of THC helps with the CBD effectiveness

I was on effexor wellbutrin abilify clonapin/ lorazepam and cymbalta over the course of 15+ years. Ive been off the meds now for 1 yr 9 mos. dont really want to go back on but im not great — maybe healing … was on a variety of supplements (i think the naturopath was making money but i did manage to get off the antidepressants with them) . I finally decided i needed to go low and slow — ive been reinventing my wheel for a while now —- cpl more visits to the naturopath ..
the recent problem is traumas (car accidents etc) and anxiety — sometimes it rolls into a bit of depression as i feel im going this alone …
docs want to put me back on meds cuz that seems to be what they know —
i do have a new therapist its not as effective yet as my old therapist — wish i could go back … its so hard to find a therapist that has some effectiveness and that you can click with …

tried a bit of cbd recently and it seems to help with the anxiety — has anyone been able to get off everything? cbd included …
and has discontinuing the cbd after a time caused any repercussions?

How have others been successful finding doctors that will work with alternatives (supplements/cbd)

Do we NEED to be on cbd or supplements — is it possible to go off all of it and survive be happy and functional …??

Welcome to Connect, @k777. You ask a good question. Can depression and anxiety be managed without medications, including without CBD? I don't think there is one answer that fits all. Do people do it? Yes. Can all people? No.

@k777, did I understand correctly: Currently you are not taking any medications or supplements for depression or anxiety. However, with recent traumas you have been experiencing anxiety again and occasionally bouts of depression. CBD oil has helped the anxiety a bit, but you would like to return to med-free and not use any medications, including CBD. Did I get that right?

I use 300 mg Brighten Pure CBD oil 2 drops under the tongue twice a day. No prescription is needed anymore. Bought it online.
