Cauda Equina Syndrome: Difficulty with going to the bathroom

Cauda Equina Syndrome

Unfortunately my brother had waited too long to address his back injury and
has severe nerve damage leaving him unable to walk on his own. He has to use
a catheter when he urinates and is not able to empty his bowel completely
resulting in constant pressure which creates chronic pain in his rectum and
down his legs for several hours at a time. He has seen several Neurologists,
Gastroenterologists and has had lengthy PT in the Fresno, Ca. area with no
real success, he has been given Morphine and Anti spasmodic drugs. Are
there any REAL SPECIALISTS that work in this area?

Hi,
I'm sorry to hear about your brother. I can't imagine living with such constant pain. Should you wish to inquire about a specialist at Mayo, please see the contact information here http://mayocl.in/1mtmR63

Tagging @topaz who may have something to add about Cauda Equina Syndrome to this thread.

I have cauda equina syndrome and it's awful. Doctors didn't care or handed me huge bottles of "stuff" to drink, stomach trials, Etc. I finally found a great drug called hyoscyamine sl 0.125mg along with milk of magnesia 2xs a day and both started working. Now need the Arachnoiditis fixed and I'm good. Lol!!!

It is a horrible way to live. I have Cauda Equina Syndrome and Epilepsy from severe child abuse. Both almost killed me but here I am. I have been ill with terrible uti's and full blown kidney infections since I was five. I had a tumor inside my spinal cord from having my spine compressed so much as a very small child. I have brain damage in my Left Temporal Lobe and a bunch of other stuff. My parents, back in the 60's had no ideas that MRI's were going to be invented. The neurosurgeons say I have every single symptom on the CES scale. I'm allergic to all the opiodes which is fine. I take Napercyn 500 twice a day, use my TENS Unit, do physical therapy...Lumbar Stabilization exercises, every day, walk briskly for 60 minutes a day although it sometimes causes blood in my...
Yikes! Too much information. I am still mobile because I make myself be mobile. Fluorescent lights and ceiling fans trigger my seizures, so working anyplace with fluorescent lights is not possible. But I am 59 and alive. God has a plan for my life.

@1959karie
Welcome to Connect, glad your with us.
I’m really sorry you had such an unhappy childhood and were subjected to such serious abuse. Do you have Temporal Lobe Epilepsy with Focal Aware and/or Focal Impared Seizures and/or Photosensitive Epilepsy. Is your Epilepsy controlled?
Do you need blood or platelet transfusions?
Wishing you improved health and much happiness,
Jake

Does anyone have spinal stenosis with caudal equine that's leading to bowel incontinence? If so can you tell me how you're handling it. I'm scheduled to talk to a general surgeon at Loma Linda Hospital in San Bernardino Calif in May of this year. I don't know what to expect. This is an embarrassing topic for me but I have got to get information as to what can be done. If someone has experienced this issue and feel comfortable to talk about it, just know in advance I appreciate your help.
