Anyone had cataract surgery living with MDS?
I was told yesterday by my eye doctor it is time for cataract surgery. I have an evaluation scheduled for November 1st. I have sent a question to my onocologist since I have MDS/MF. Wondering if anyone else has had this done with no problems or issues.
thank you all in advance.

Correction. Evaluation is December 1st
@hlmcneely I have CMML and MF and take Jakafi. I have had laser cataract surgery on both eyes with no problems at all. I have worn glasses or contacts since I was 7 and could barely see without them, and the cataract surgery is miraculous. You will love it. I did have some scar tissue that grew after about a year but that was easily removed and is not unusual. There is no pain and no bleeding.

1 Reactionmy eye doc said that when the night glare gets too bad, it will be time for cataract surgery. but talking to some people who have had it they said while their vision was great, but the glare of oncoming cars at night is worse.
hard to decide. did anyone find night driving harder after surgery ?
Cataract surgery created double vision for me, making it very difficult to read almost anything. Corrective lenses only help a little.
@sme225 awesome. Thanks for the feedback
I am being evaluated on 11/10/25 for cataract on my left eye....I have no sight in my right eye as I have Ptosis of my right eye. I just had an LPI (iridotomy) done on the left to assure reduced intra-ocular pressure. I am scared to death and having only one eye compounds my fears. I know the risks are minimal but still..... wish us all luck

2 Reactions@normahorn so sorry. My dad had that all his life. Not fun. I was concerned due to low platelets and other blood numbers.
Thank you
@kndaustin71 Prayers coming your way for a good evaluation, and if necessary, a successful surgery. My eyes are so important to me. Still 20/40 vision after lazik surgery 20+ years ago, but had a recent vitreous detachment followed by a tear in my retina. Trying my best to keep my eyes healthy. Stay positive!!
I agree. We need them. Thank you for your reply and good thoughts. Stay well.

@hlmcneely I have needed Cataract and Hernia surgery for a year or so. I am being treated for Multiple Meyloma and my Dr. said no to the surgery's while my M spike numbers were high. After my Stem Cell and several months of maintenance I am -MRD so they gave the go ahead. I had both surgery's done in a seven day period. I can see clearly again, no more pain in my gut. I am good to go. Now it is back to work on my MM maintenance to keep my numbers down.
Good Luck,
Mark
