Can’t get an rheumatology appt
I more than likely have what killed my mom. However I also have at least one other possibly multiple autoimmune diseases. Have positive ssa and >8 sjogrens. My mom had polymyositis and ild. They didn’t catch it in time. So I’m trying to be proactive and get help before it’s too late. Mayo ra dept is saying because I don’t have a rash or constant inflammation they refuse to see me. I’m in rural ga. They told me to fly to nyc. I can’t do that. Jacksonville is close to me. Plus all of the rheumatologists around me are either not taking new patients or scheduling out until may to July. I’m afraid if I wait tgat long it will be too late. With these diseases if you wait until you have debilitating constant pain there’s usually very little hope of survival. I also am having some kind of epileptic like attacks only when slerr er ping and bp 90/57 and heart rate going below 50. How do I convince them to see me? I take care of myself, eat paleo I’m not eating processed junk and am not obese. Plus this is probably genetic for several generations which would be a great research opportunity

@iansmommy1, it sounds like you took the right steps to seek an appointment at Mayo Clinic. It's hard to get that denial letter. As you can imagine, Mayo Clinic gets more requests than there are available appointments.
You may wish to ask your primary care doctor to submit a referral if they believe Mayo Clinic is a good option for you.
You may also wish to look into the Mayo Clinic Care Network to find care closer to home that benefits from Mayo Clinic expertise.
