Cancer free at Day 603

Posted by anosmic1 @anosmic1, Mar 21 10:31am

Got results of my first blood test after surgery in 2024, hormones in 2025 and 39 radiation sessions that ended in February. Undetectable. It feels so damn good.

Obviously there's still much ahead of me. Follow-up testing begins in May and every 3 moths for what feels like eternity. I'm age 68 and Gleason 9, so the chance I have to deal with something in the future is very real. And I'm still experiencing the hot flashes and fatigue from the treatments.

Today I don't care. For the first time since July 2024 the medicine says it cannot detect any cancer. Nothing else matters. Happy day.

BRCA2 is a factor in how fast it can or won’t be back in your body/ I ve been told on this forum.

Great that your PSA is undetectable!

You mentioned that you’re “still experiencing the hot flashes and fatigue from the treatments.”
> when did you stop the hormone therapy?

> how long were you on hormone therapy?

> which hormone therapy was it?

> what is your testosterone level now?

Will you be having PSA tests every 3 months forever? Or will they spread the PSA tests further apart the longer you go?

(Following radiation treatments, I had PSA tests every 3 months for the 1st 2 years, then every 4 months for the next 2 years, now I’m having PSA tests every 6 months for 2 years; after that, we’ll see…….)

I had one hormone shot, Lupron, on Oct. 15. The doctor said it would start to wear off after 6 months, which would be in April. No one what my testosterone level is - I've had the one PSA test after radiation ended and I got those results on Friday (< 0.01). Surgery was 16 months ago, and radiation had 39 treatments ending Feb. 4.

The hot flashes are mostly a nightly thing, although I get some during the daytime. The fatigue is still significant. I had a moderate workout on Saturday and walked 2 miles at the zoo on Sunday and was wiped out.

Congratulations.
I had prosectomy April of 2023 with Gleason of 9 at Mayo in Rochester . My PSA is still undetectable. I am getting checked on 6 month schedule then will be one year if undetectable at next visit.
