Can loss of a muscle due to nerve damage related to type II?

About a month ago as as I was climbing out of the pool I could not take the last step with my left leg. Too weak. I noticed the weakness in it and then a few days later while laying on the couch I went to stretch my legs. Lifted that leg straight up but instead it chose to go straight to the left. I have an appointment with the neurologist in a couple of weeks. Just wondering if anyone has experience with this type of problem. I'm assuming it is permanent but hope not. Since I developed foot drop immediately after recovering from covid nearly 4 years ago, it is making it difficult to walk. Just looking for some discussion before I see a neurologist.

@cekkk as you probably know neuropathy is a complication of diabetes. I am a 50+ years diabetic. I have experienced peripheral neuropathy. In my case it disappeared after pancreas transplant. That was 18 years ago. In the past few months I’ve noticed that it seems to be resurfacing. I’m not sure if it can cause muscle loss or be permanent. It is good that you are seeking the advice of a neurologist. Do you have any other treatments for nerve damage?

I do not. I've tried lidocaine and the typical arthritis creams, they don't seem to have any effect. We have two legal dispensaries in town and I have tried candies with marijuana in them, even bought some low potency cigarettes. No buzz and no relief.
