Can Levothyroxine cause Sweating and Hot Flashes?

Have been on Synthroid for years. Was prescribed when I was in peri-menopause. Been on different doses over the years and suspected a few years ago it was the cause of excessive sweating and intolerance to heat, but seemed like it was no big deal to the doctors. I recently was unable to pick up my refill and after three days off of it, no more sweating. Not sure about gaining weight etc but levels will be checked in a month. Doctor not thrilled about me stopping it, but I am now 64 and feel like the benefit does not outweigh the risks of staying on it.

Fifteen years of sweating profusely anytime I am outside and the temperature is above about 72°. Having read the many comments above it definitely sounds like my suspicions are correct that it is due to the level thyroxine, but since I do not have a thyroid since it was removed, I must take something to replace the hormones lost.
I am 77 years of age and I’m just wishing I could spend the rest of my years being able to be outside but if I am people will always question me if something is wrong because this sweat is actually dripping off of me no matter what medication I take to try and dry it up or what over-the-counter items I have tried or even CARPE products or similar. I know the natural possibility is to take the pig thyroid, but my endocrinologist says that is not a good idea. It seems like many of you that have been on the level thyroxine, but have eliminated it because you are able to have also eliminated the heat intolerance and the sweating. Does anyone have any suggestions for someone who is on the levothyroxine and would just like to not be sweating every time you go outside and the temperature is above 72 or 75°. It would just be nice to be able to walk around the block, go to a family reunion, go to a park with your grandchildren, etc., etc. etc.. I’ve been to Mayo, I’ve been to five Dermatologist, and all I am hearing is that we can try Botox which will cost approximately $1000 and might last for six months if it works with huge amounts of Botox being injected or I can go more drastically and have surgery to have the nerve pinched off in my chest. That will stop the sweating altogether however it is believed that they’re likely could be compensatory sweating. So you eliminated in your upper body and then perhaps you will start in your lower body I believe Mayo Clinic is working on something that would eliminate the compensatory sweating so I guess that is a possibility but sad that you have to actually go through a major surgery to have this done just because of this medication. I have to wonder if there are any pharmaceutical companies out there who have any answers to this. Any and all suggestions are very, very welcome.

In the intervening years since this 2021 I have learned that dental related infections can be another source of sweating too. If you have older crowns and haven't been to the dentist in a spell do not overlook them as a possible contributing factor.
