Can inflammatory arthritis cause TFCC tear?

Posted by smallisland @smallisland, Jul 3, 2023

My daughter has just been diagnosed with undifferentiated inflammatory arthritis and has been started on Methotrexate. She was Dx because of severe pain in Rt wrist that didn't improve with physio. Now she has severe pain in Lt wrist and MRI showed TFCC tear and tendonitis. Can this be from the inflammatory arthritis?

I’m not really qualified to answer your question but I did find this article from The Cleveland Clinic. I hope it can answer most of your questions.

If your daughter would like to join Mayo Clinic Connect, there are some good discussions on arthritis.
Otherwise, how id your daughter doing with the inflammatory arthritis?

My TFCC has ware and tear , but my ulna was longer than my radial. They had to do a ulna osteotomy shortening.

Hi @smallisland, I notice that you posted elsewhere about your daughter having repeat infections

Do they know what caused the infection in her breast? Do you know what type of inflammatory arthritis she has, for example rheumatoid arthritis (RA), ankylosing spondylitis and psoriatic arthritis?

I have weekly methotrexate injections and have been taking hydroxyquine daily for a shorter time. I was warned about reduced immunity so try to remember to wear a mask when shopping etc. I had to have a special eye test done along with my standard exam because long term use can be an issue. This was my first so sets the baseline.
