Can I take cranberry juice for a bladder Infection while on warfarin?

My mom’s doctor told her to drink cranberry juice for a bladder infection. She has stage 3 kidney disease and is on warfarin. Is this the best treatment? They say you should not drink cranberry juice while on warfarin.

@momandkim welcome to Mayo Clinic Connect. Who is “they” that says you should not drink cranberry juice while on warfarin? I would think that if the doctor that recommended the cranberry juice is the same one who prescribes the warfarin there shouldn’t be a problem. I think people can encounter problems when they shop around for doctors, treatments & medications and information. It is good to have a provider that knows the full medical history of the patient and can give the best advice for each individual.

She has a new doctor, ( recently moved to FL). This doctor called my mom and said there was some bacteria in her urine and to drink cranberry, my mom said I can’t, I’m on warfarin so she said, then just take a little. I think we need to find a doctor who takes the time to explain their reasoning and any alternatives. Thanks.
