Can i put my mind at ease? Is this possible Lymphoma??

Posted by atticusmom @atticusmom, Oct 10, 2017

I am a 22 year old f, mother to a 4 year old
I am completely healthy with the exception of being tired & a weird lymphnode on my right side of my neck towards the collar bone it is palpable, and cannot be seen to naked eye only felt. This node has been present for about 10-12 years and have not noticed it to grow in size nor is it painful, it is movable. I had an ultra sound it was 0.4x0.7x1.6 cm. In size located in the subcutaneous tissue, they called it a small hypoechoic nodule, with colorful of minimal interflow.. I was ordered blood which all came back normal, I also was given test for lactate dehydrogenase and uric acid via blood which were also normal, should I be concerned still? Wanting a second opinion.. Dr said she is confident this is not HL or NHL, Have an xray for my chest tomorrow to check for any other nodes.
Cancer does not run in my family.

Hello @atticusmom

Welcome to Mayo Connect, we appreciate your posting this question. As you may already be aware, we at Mayo Connect are not doctors or medical professionals and therefore cannot diagnose any health related problems or symptoms. Our Members can however, share their experiences if they have had similar problems. Perhaps someone with nodules as you described will comment on your post in the near future.

It sounds as if your doctor is doing a lot of tests, that is good. I am really glad to see, however, that you are seeking a second opinion. It is so important to advocate for yourself and seek out as much information as you can so that you rest assured that you have a correct diagnosis and treatment plan in place.

We look forward to getting to know you better, and supporting you as you seek answers, so please continue to post your questions and concerns.

From your description is sounds as if this nodule is located in the thyroid, is that correct? Is your second opinion scheduled with a large university or teaching/research hospital? Do you live near a Mayo facility (Minnesota, Arizona or Florida)?

Hi @atticusmom,

I would like to add my welcome to Teresa's. Teresa is correct in that we cannot offer diagnoses on Connect, but it does sound like your current medical team is running a lot of tests and are confident in their results. However, I completely understand why you are concerned and would want to seek a second opinion. Like Teresa asked, are you located near a Mayo Clinic facility (Minnesota, Arizona, or Florida)? It is also possible to have your records reviewed by Mayo Clinic physicians if you go through the appointment request process where they will be able to provide you with more information. @atticusmom, is this something you are interested in? Hello @atticusmom

I've been thinking about you and wondering how you were doing. You mentioned you were having a chest x-ray. I hope that results were negative for other nodules.

Please share with us, as you are comfortable doing so, how you are dealing with this problem.
