Can carboplatin/etoposide cure aggressive Grade 3 Large Cell NECs?
My wife had a golf-ball-sized Grade 3 large-cell NEC tumor removed from her colon 4 months ago. 2 lymph nodes out of 42 removed also had the cancer in them. She was only offered carboplatin/etoposide combo as adjuvant therapy. This combo has been shown to be ineffective against Grade 3 LC NECs, so she declined. Does anyone know of any effective chemotherapy for Grade 3 JC NECS that will actually CURE the cancer, not just add a few months longer life?

@praisegod13 Hi and welcome to Mayo Connect. I am personally unaware of a treatment that will cure the cancer. I have a pancreatic neuroendocrine tumor that has spread. I view it as a long term illness that needs chemo to keep it from growing more. Curing it isn't an option for me. How is your wife feeling?

5 Reactions@tomrennie She's just starting treatment next week. Your comment will give more hope for more time. Thank you very much, and best wishes for your own journey through this terrible cancer that has so little research about it because it is so rare.

1 Reaction@praisegod13 I was diagnosed in 8/22 and have been on chemo since. It isn't always pleasant, but I just got back from a hike in the woods with my dog. I still live a relatively active life. Will she be starting carboplatin/etoposide?
