CALCIUM ASPARTATE BETTER FOR OSTEOPOROSIS THAN CALCIUM CARBONATE

I HAVE READ THAT CALCIUM ASPARTATE ANHYDROUS IS BETTER FOR OSTEOPOROSIS AND CAN LOWER A DEXA SCAN BETTER THAN CALCIUM CARBONATE. IS THIS SO?

Calcium carbonate is poorly absorbed, so I would guess, yes.

My doc, rheumatologist, told me that calcium citrate was more easily absorbed and also easier on one’s stomach.

Recently, I read an article that cited that calcium citrate should be taken at night as our circadian rhythms make it prime time for bone rebuilding.

Good health, all!! Cheers!!

My rheumatologist also told me that calcium citrate was better absorbed. But the pills are so big that I have trouble swallowing them!! Anyone have this problem? What do you do???

Citrical has a mini that's a little easier to get down. I've heard good things about a chewable called Seen, but it's super expensive.

Yes, in cvs, or rite aid, amazon walmart. They sell calcium citrate mini tabs. They are very small.

@karel I also find calcium citrate easier to digest. My endocrinologist recommended that I take no more than 400mg at a time and always with a meal. That way, the calcium is more easily digested. My endocrinologist said that more than 400mg at a time is not a good idea as much more than that will sit in the GI tract and not be digested.

You have to read the labels carefully to figure out the kind of calcium in the bottle. The more common calcium is calcium carbonate.

By the way, it’s best to avoid the use of all capital letters in your posts. Capital letters is perceiving as yelling in text.

My Rheumatologist suggested it as well, but it made me nauseous, and by the 4th day I threw up the pill. Went back to Caltrate. My multivitamin has some calcium in it. My blood calcium
is normal.

Hi vagirl57,

Fingers crossed that the shiny new bottle of calcium citrate does not make me queasy - I’ve been using a calcium carbonate chew that I really like . . .

I do have GERD from taking so many pain relievers to combat the reactions from Tymlos, so taking the calcium at night might be a bit tricky. More to follow, I’m sure.

The best to you. Cheers!

You can get calcium citrate in dissolvable powder form. I used to take calcium citrate but it made my stool too loose. Can do the opposite for others. You just need to try it to see how it works for you. With the powder you can adjust your dosage if need be.
