Does anyone one else have bacterial vaginosis that keeps coming back?

I finally got rid of it ( I think ). The urogynecologist told me to stop repeating w Flagyl and take refrigerated yeast pills.

I used an over the counter boric acid suppository and that cleared it up.

Is there any cure coming for BV? Due to my breast cancer treatment medications, I now am 3 years in of having chronic BV, and no cure ever in sight. This should be a simple thing to cure compared to cancer, yet all there is for women is the same lousy treatment crap that never works. With all the technology we have, and medical research doctors, why they cant cure it is beyond me. I've tried everything for treating it, and it never lasts more than 2 or 3 weeks, if I'm lucky. I'm not even sexually active now due to the discomfort, and yet here it is still constantly returning anyway. Help!!! Does anyone know of a cure? Pro and pre biotics don't help either. It's all garbage and a huge money making scheme.

@blondin925,
By BV, I assume you are talking about bacterial vaginosis . You might want to check out the following discussion on topic.

Yes. I do, but all the medicine in the world won't cure it. I have been suffering from it for 3 years. The mayo clinic info about it doesn't help. We need a permanent solution to our suffering. If it was a man's issue they would get right on it. But since we are women no cure in sight.

Hi, @kittymama. Welcome to Mayo Clinic Connect. Sounds like it might be challenging to have bacterial vaginosis keep coming back.

A member I'd like to invite to this discussion who've mentioned bacterial vaginosis and may have experience with recurrence is @usafretired15. @spudsmacm @baxtersmom @peabody88 @contentandwell @becsbuddy may also have some thoughts for you.

While awaiting these members in this conversation, @kittymama, I thought you might be interested in reading this Mayo Clinic information on this condition: https://www.mayoclinic.org/diseases-conditions/bacterial-vaginosis/symptoms-causes/syc-20352279.

Has your doctor weighed in on this condition recurring? If so, why does he or she feel this is happening?

My doctor is very aware of it, she feels my breast cancer treatments very well could have brought this extra suffering on me. I read the mayo clinic info about BV. Nothing I didn't already know. No cure or real help out there for this. It would be nice if they came up with a douche that balances ph and kills bacteria for this instead of that damn cream you have to deal with, and the mess for 7 days. The oral medicine doesn't work either. Then you end up with a yeast infection from the BV treatment. It's all a money making scheme from the medical community. They could cure it if they cared to, but they don't. I'm a nurse, so I know the game unfortunately.

Please make sure you see a gynecologist experienced in vaginitis. There are multiple factors which may be causing your symptoms, and specialized tests which can be done to guide treatment. Mayo Clinic has a Women’s Health Clinic that can help.

@blondin925, you are rightfully angry that research has yet to find a solution for recurrent bacterial vaginosis. It's common for BV to come back within 3 to 12 months even with proper treatment. It's so frustrating! It seems unthinkable that modern science can't yet help conditions that negatively affect quality of life, like BV, idiopathic neuropathy, tinnitus, arthritis and so many others. You are not alone.

Have you tried extended-use metronidazole therapy?
