Bowel movements after everything I eat

20 years ago I had 18 inches of my colon removed. I’m wondering if that has any bearing on my frequent BMs. I eat every two hours. And it seems I can't get ahead to gain weight because of the constant BMs.

I’m small, so I can’t tolerate too much food, about 1800 to 2000 calories a day. Has anyone had a similar issue. Besides that, I’m fine, but locked in the house. I need to gain at least 10 pounds. My regular (before) weight was 93; I’m 4’11” in proportion even now.

I have a personal trainer and thank goodness for my muscle development or I’d be a stick. My surgery was Nov. 22, 2022. I have made progress as physically I can do anything. I’m tired of the toilet being my best friend!😅

Thank you for reading this and any hints.

P.S. I’m 84 and cancer free so far.

I am so glad to learn about muscle growth in our senior years. I suffered atrophy, do to mesenteric Eschemia, and oc, I was told gaining muscle wasn’t gong to happen, any pointers would be appreciated.
Can’t offer to much more information on weight gain other , muscle does weigh more than fat though. Only thing i can think of is high protein fats, like greek yogurt.
Sorry about toilet hugging, wish I had that throughout chemo, rather be rid of the toxins than hanging on to them. I noticed i eat more when relaxed. Not sure if you like the cbd and such, too much for me. I’d ask your trainer, they should be able to offer diet suggestions to build muscle and weight. :)jm

Muscle gain and weight gain needs caories and protein. I have certainly gained muscle and I'm 84 yeasrs old. We meet threet imes a week for 30 minutes and it is a work out. I agree that eating while relaxed is definitely prefered as tension interferes with digestion. I would also sugest walking as much as possible with just even one pound weights. It's a slow process, but it does pay off. I made so any mistakes, I had to figure a lot of these thing out for myself. Protein after you exercise helps buiild muscle. Don't wait more than an hour. I jave a protein drink: Premier Protein: 30 g protein, 160 calories and 1g of sugar. Mine is vanilla and tastes pretty good. I get it at Costco, but it's probably online. I have one a day. Comes in different flavors. If I think of anyhting else, I let you know. Don't let them tell you that you only need calories; you also need protein and NO SUGAR! Good Luck!

I understand that! I eat and head to the bathroom asap! I’ve had surgery 10 yrs ago but still dealing with spots in my intestines that we are watching. I get a Lanreotide shot every month and take Xermello everyday but I have just started the flushing again.

OMG! How awful for you. This. Is a wicked disease! How do you handle it emotionally? I have good and bad days and try to make the most of the good ones. I started on Metamucil again and that helps. Thank you for your reply and hope you find some relief.

Thanks for that, i was told muscle building was out at 65 , wouldn’t happen. Never did get why eating protein after instead of before works. But it’s common practice with the best of the best. And that’s you!

I am 65, and after 11 months of colorectal cancer, a temporary ileostomy and 6 months of chemotherapy I am finally back to work and back to yoga and muscle building. I am definitely gaining muscle back in my stomach and glutes, and my core is getting stronger every week. I also plank every night for as long as I can.

You are doing great! Happy for you. But, what is plank?

Premier Drinks @ 30g protein, 1 gm sugar… I use this drink as meal replacement or when not able to eat anything. Many flavors, but chocolate my favorite… now offered in powder form at reduced portion cost. It is good nutrition that tastes like a treat! I highly recommend. 🙂

It’s a core-building exercise, where you lift yourself onto your elbows and toes (neuropathy makes that hard!), constrict your stomach muscles and hold the position as long as you can. Even a few seconds helps, and as you get stronger your time increases.
