Botox for first bite syndrome

Posted by mpm @mpmer, Mar 14 10:39am

Has anyone used Botox for first bite syndrome. My first bite has expanded to the 5th or 6th bite? This started after cancer surgery from lymph nodes, removal part of the back of my tongue.

i am awaiting my third round of botox for neck pain and 1st bite syndrome. It definitely helps relax the muscles and seems to last around ninety days which is perfect as the insurance covers it every 3 months. i get about 20 injections up and down my neck at Mayo Clinic

Thanks. I have decided to wait till my radiation is done. I just don’t want to finish one problem before I start another.

Can I ask which provider (ENT, PCP, neurologist, etc.) prescribed the Botox treatment for you? I am still dealing with first bite from the same HPV neck cancer surgery that @mpmer described and which I had a year and a half ago. Have tried everything else since and Botox seems to be my last resort. Curious as you mentioned that you have it covered by insurance. TIA

@jpdeiss Hello, It was the ENT that mentioned the Botox. But every Thursdays I meet with the radiologist . I started my 2nd of 5 weeks. He just gave 2 scripts for Pregabalin generic for Lyraca. I was on Gabapentin for a leg injury and it messed my head up. I started with a lump on the right side lymph node. Then they found a ping pong size tumor behind it. It also spread to section of the back of my tongue which they removed a small section of it. I hope this may help. I just got the script(pills) today. Starting with them today. Also my 1st bite has progressed to the 5th and 6 th bites. I hope this helps you.

@jpdeiss Yes insurance has covered it so far thanks to Mayo Clinic It was my ENT PA that made the recommendation. Hopefully the muscle will create a memory that will prolong the positive effects. Also micro wave heated rice bag has been very instrumental for me.

@mpmer thank you! Gabapentin is bad stuff...messed me up too. I have still have 5th / 6th bite a year and half later. It's manageable but hoping Botox will alleviate. Thanks again and best of luck to you!

@scooter4 thank you...I've learned to live with it and have tried everything else except Botox so that's my next step. Thanks for confirming and best of luck.
