I'm worried about taking statins and side effects
Hi, I am 69 and just started taking statins two months ago for cholesterol and I am now noticing dents in my calves and near my knees. I am concerned and worried about taking statins and wondering if anyone has these type of permanent like dents whether taking statins or not. Just don’t know if it is a typical thing that happens with aging or if there is something seriously wrong. I do not have pain but suddenly noticing these dents has me a bit scared! Any feed back would be great!! Thank you!

@njx58 interesting…my doc at Columbia Presbyterian says I likely have hereditary high cholesterol— she is interested in triglycerides and ratios… my numbers have been quite stable for a long time…we are watching carefully.

1 Reaction@njx58 my cholesterol levels were high for years. Finally last year after issues with arrhythmias I started statin and some other meds. My levels dropped significantly. My cardiologist was pleased. I have not has an issue since.
@manofheart Why are we letting these trolls participate in our forums?
@con123 thanks. I will look into it. I have started berberine. There is some old research that said it reduces LDL, triglycerides, and doesn't affect HDL.
@kallettla I’m also statin intolerant but I’ve had some good results from a supplement called Durable Heart. Recent lipid tests showed a significant decrease in LDL and triglycerides.

1 Reaction@rimord come on sis I mean no harm. God bless wand good luck
Hi. I put it into AI.
Because dents without pain are not typical of statin effects, it’s worth:
- Mentioning it to their clinician
- Getting a quick exam
- Possibly checking a CK (creatine kinase) level if the clinician thinks it’s relevant
This isn’t an emergency — just something to get evaluated so nothing is missed.

I couldn't take statins (tried 3) and Nexletol due to body severe pain and weakness. PCSK9 gave me a scary allergic reaction. I am going to try Zetia again without statins to see if I can take it alone.
Good luck!

2 Reactions@hraka13 My GP is a doctor, too. My cardiologist is a doctor, too. They both agree that the ratio is not relevant. Merck and Pfizer spent a lot of money years ago on a drug that would raise HDL. It failed because there was no benefit. Lowering LDL has a proven benefit - and you're already doing that by taking a statin.
I didn’t mean to be snippy but my doctor has decades of training and is more than happy to research any questions or findings I have.
@manofheart You're reading way too much into what I said. These forums can get out of hand.
