AST and ALT bloodwork: anything to be concerned about?

@pdsfoley, I'd like to extend a welcome to Connect. Since you have posted in the Liver Disease Group, Am I correct to assume that you are concerned about a current or potential liver disease diagnosis?
When I was first thought to have a liver issue, my doctor told me that a single lab is a 'moment' in time. So when my own liver functions were elevated but everything else was normal, he ordered another lab test several weeks later-and included instructions about any prescription medications, over-the-counter medications or supplements, and alcohol.
@pdsfoley, Your doctor, the one who ordered your labs' is the only person who can tell you what these labs mean for you because only he/she knows of any contributing factors. When will you be able to talk to your doctor about this?

@rosemarya yes I have an appointment next week. I was just asked in general if those numbers were way out of line

Sorry, I can't really give you the sort of answer that you're probably looking for, except to say that I'm currently being worked up. The studies to date have included lower GI series and bloodwork. Findings have included ALT of 116 and AST of 80 and an elevated enhanced liver fibrosis score, and conditions such as paraesophageal hernia and non-alcoholic cirrhosis of the liver (fatty liver) have been mentioned as possibilities.

I'll be undergoing an upper GI series and a "fibroscan" soon. I'll update as I continue to receive results; perhaps that information will help answer your question, if only indirectly.
