Blood thinners and pulmonary embolisms: how to get meniscus repaired?

Posted by tonysgrlaz1 @tonysgrlaz1, Dec 28, 2025

I tore my meniscus 12/6. Been home from work since. Went to ER. Went to Orthopedic doctor. Had MRI. It's torn in 2 places. This past Sunday had chest pains. Ended up going to ER. Had a total of 5 pulmonary emboliism. Discharged in time for Christmas. Anyway, still need surgery on knee. Can't work on it like this .On Eliquis now. Had the same thing happen in April. Had ACDF surgery on 3 levels on 4/4/25. Ended up in ER on 4/17/25 with chest pains. Had bilateral PE's. After surgery though. This time, I haven't even had it yet and got them again. How am I going to get my knee fixed? How long, is long enough, said enough, to get off them a few days so my knee can get repaired?

I also had two meniscus tears in a knee that was almost bone on bone. I was scheduled to have another surgery already and it was more important than the knee. I used a rollator for months and finally the tears resolved on their own. I take viva naturals collagen daily and it has greatly helped my knee, but it takes time to do it.

You need to work with your doctors to determine whether or not you can go off the meds for a short time. Especially speak with whom ever is prescribing your Eliquis that if your surgery is absolutely necessary they could put in a vena cava filter to prevent the clots from getting to your lungs? You’ve obviously got something going on with your blood system that is causing you to produce clots like this even on a blood thinner. You’ve obviously may also need to consider begin wearing support JOBST stockings and possibly some type of mechanical device for your injured leg to keep the circulation moving. Good luck
