Blood Pressure Stability
Hi. I'm curious if any long term survivors in the group have issues with blood pressure stability.
I am 16 years post treatment for tonsil cancer. I had 33 radiation and 6 chemo treatments. I am on BP meds which typically keep me at 120/80 or below. I have had 2 recent episodes where my BP has spiked for 2 day periods. 150-170/100. It has resolved itself both times.
I've come across a number of research papers discussing baroreceptor issues resulting from neck radiation. Hence my question.
A number of writings indicate it's not (for lack of better words) a widely recognized issue. I've asked my primary and cardiologist. Both give me nods of acknowledgement but, haven't given much weight to it yet.
Just gathering information....Thank you

I’m sorry no one has an answer for you on this one. Sixteen years seems a long time to relate to a recent blood pressure issue. Best I could advise is to ask the cardiologist to get to the bottom of this issue prior to the autopsy. That might get some results.
Even with blockage in the neck arteries I don’t understand how that can trigger BP spikes. An ultrasound should confirm. I am not speaking as a doctor. Good luck.
Stress echo was good, carotids are fine. Follow up with Internist next week. Will get figured out.
