Blood on toilet paper, toilet after forcing BM - concerning?
Yesterday evening I had a bowel movement, but It felt like it wouldn’t come out easily so I was pushing and straining, and kind of trying to force it out. After going, I noticed some blood on the toilet paper but not on my stool or in the toilet bowl.
This morning and early afternoon I had bowel movements again, and after going there was blood on the toilet paper again and I also noticed drops of blood dripping from my rear into the toilet bowl. Some of the time I think the blood looked pinkish or red.
This evening I had another bowel movement, and this time when I went there was more blood when I wiped, and there was also blood in the toilet bowl. The blood on the toilet paper looked bright red, but I can’t tell what color the blood in the toilet bowl is. I was concerned when I saw the blood because it was a decent amount on the paper, and it scared me to see blood after pooping. The blood on the toilet paper after wiping was maybe a couple inches or so wide, and it looked like a bright red, or kind of similar to period blood. I know this isn’t my period, and the blood was definitely coming from my rear. The toilet bowl looked like it had blood in it and looked kind of like when I’m on my period, but there wasn’t as much blood and there was still a yellowish color to the toilet water. There were some drops of blood in the toilet bowl though, like blood was dripping down.
Maybe 15-30 minutes after seeing the blood, I had another bowel movement, and that time I didn’t see any blood and it looked normal.
I’ve also been dealing with constipation, or feeling like I’m going most days but I feel like I’m not getting everything out. Sometimes I feel confused if I’m constipated because I’ve been going most days and going decent amounts, but I still feel like I’m not fully emptied or like there’s still more in me.
I have a doctors appointment next month, but I’ve been considering going somewhere sooner if it seems like I need to for the blood, or if it continues.

Hi @nicole2006, and welcome to Mayo Clinic Connect.
You mention bleeding coinciding with straining to have a bowel movement. If it were me I would call my doctor first thing tomorrow morning and let them know this same information you posted here.
Please, please come back and let me know what your doctor recommends. How are you feeling otherwise? Is constipation new for you?

6 ReactionsI also wondered if the constipation was new. Regardless, Janell is right - you need to let your doctor know what's going on.

Have you considered the blood coming from a hemorrhoid?

5 ReactionsIt’s possible that you have a anal fissure, it’s a small tear that bleeds a lot when you have bowel movements, besides seeing the doctor to be sure, pushing too hard is never a good idea, that’s how you can get hemorrhoids which also bleed.

6 Reactions@jlharsh I’m feeling okay, probably more stressed than anything. Constipation isn’t new for me and I’ve felt backed up for years. Usually most days I’ll go and have decent sized bowel movements, but after going I often feel like there’s more I didn’t get out.

All important facts to convey to your doctor… best wishes to you.
Hope you can see a rectal doctor who is also qualified in colonoscopies.

1 ReactionAny blood loss is very concerning, and you should get a colonoscopy ASAP. While chances of being just a hemorrhoid are good, colon cancer is also a possibility.

2 Reactions@frouke Amen. Agreed. I think if there was a serious issue you would absolutely know and not have to guess.
