Bladder suddenly stopped working

Posted by crowescott @crowescott, 1 day ago

I’ve had IC for years and multiple hydrodistension procedures. After some mild occasional “leakage,” I underwent a uro-dynamics test. Two days later I couldn’t pee and haven’t since. That was 3 months ago. I don’t have BPH but urologist did uro-lift anyway. I don’t have a diagnosis. Help anyone? Tom.

Had somewhat similar but I did have BPH and got Urolift - after that, the Bladder stopped....they said give it time as it might come back, but year later the same. Looking for anything new to stimulate the Bladder back to working.

Please don’t use acronyms (IC, BPH etc.). At least not until after you spell out the whole thing first.
That sounds dreadful for the two of you who aren’t peeing. You both mention having urologists which is good but do you also have nephrologists (kidney doctors)? One of main jobs of your kidneys is to clean your blood which results in pee (urine). If your kidneys are working, there has to be urine and it has to go somewhere. Are you catheterized?

Thank you. No, I’m not seeing a kidney doc since there is no indication that my kidneys aren’t functioning; indeed, they go into hyperdrive overnight. And yes, I’m doing intermittent self-cath; 5 x night.

Interesting and sobering. Were you ever able to get a diagnosis? Why it stopped working. Muscle damage, nerve damage, etc. I haven’t. And I’m up at night just like the interstitial cystitis. Are you still looking for an answer? T.

Hear you. Plus one Uro recommends TURP and another says not, since no urethra obstruction per cystoscopy and too invasive. And, again, no diagnosis. Frustrating.

well i do self cath after...kidneys are fine. they said "bladder muscle is dysfunctional" and might come back....frustrating as before UroLift it worked (not great but did work),,,,, after it completely stopped. hoping that there is something to help regain muscle reactions, but have not heard of anything. Went to Penn and got the same answer, although they did say stem cell stuff looks promising but way down the road.
