Big toe bending forward at middle joint very painful

Posted by charcat @charcat, May 15 7:58am

Have very bad neuropathy, no sleep, cramps and pain most of night. The last month my big toe on either foot has decided to bend forward at middle joint and stay there. Very painful stays until it finally relaxes and goes back to normal. Afraid to move my legs and feet because of the cramping in feet and legs now this with the big toe.

Hi, have appt. With foot doctor.
Have not had MRI of foot
Do have compression on L4 L5 does not bother me.
Have Sciatic nerve problems. Have many exercises to keep under control
Many years ago had EMG nerve study, when my neuropathy wasn’t that bad.
Currently do not have a neurologist. All they wanted to do was put me on Gabapentin was on for about 4yrs.
Just recently weaned myself off , do not take anymore.
I am currently just on OTC meds that I do a lot of research on. Walking and leg and foot exercises.

Do you feel any better after weaning off Gabapentin? What are the OTC drugs?

My mind seems to be working better. I am currently taking Magnesium 120mg 2 caps twice a day. R Alpha lipoic acid 600 mg 2 to 3 caps a day. Ubiquinaol Co Q10 100 mg once a day. B12 plus multi vit. Turmeric 1650 mg 2 caps a day.
Mineral oil spray on feet in evening. Vit D3 with K2
X str Hemp emu 5000 mg cream
That I use several times during the night and helps with pain and burning. Just ordered EB-C4.
Broad spectrum transdermal cream that my Foot Doctor recommended can only get from on line pharmacy. Will see how it works. One thing I know works for a while is chair yoga that I do on u tube this gal starts with the feet and works all the way up.
Don’t know if you wanted that much detail but there it is.
With some nights getting very little sleep. I can be irritable and mean. So then I turn to my 4pm glass of red wine🤪

I was having increasing cramps, bilaterally, involving feet, ankles, and knees. Also had in my hands, wrists and began going into forearms. Occasionally my calves. Weird thing was I would cramp on both sides of the joint so it was difficult to stretch out of. They often started when I got into bed or during th night. Doc thought might be related to my neuropathy. Magnesium level was fine. Decided to take magnesium fly donate 240 mg twice a day. After 6 months they are virtually gone. Stopped the magnesium and hand and foot cramps started to return. Now I take 240 mg a day and haven't had a problem. Isupposedly the fly image form is better absorbed.
Good luck. I hope you get relief and good sleep in the future. We all need this to deal with pain during the day.
