Biden undergoing radiation along with hormone therapy
It was announced in May, he had an aggressive form of prostate cancer. I assume he started hormone therapy right away. Not sure why they waited so long to start radiation, but I'm sure they had a good reason. Is it because the hormone therapy shrinks the cancer cells and makes them more susceptible to radiation?

I had the need for salvage radiation. Mayo recommended 2 months of ADT prior to treatment to weaken cancer cells.
For his age he seems like he's in great shape and should be able to tolerate radiation. I wish him all the best in his battle with PC !
First, I want to send my best wishes to President Biden and his family as he undergoes treatment. I trust he's receiving excellent care suited to his specific situation. The posts here highlight the variety of conditions, symptoms, and treatment options for prostate cancer. In my case, I had RRP in 2016 at Johns Hopkins. PSA levels increased after surgery in early 2017. There was no sign of spread beyond the prostate. Experimental (at the time) PSMA PET imaging showed extensive spread to the lymphatic system. The tumors were very small. The extent of the spread and the small tumors ruled out salvage radiation as an option. Without all the details, I have been on a series of hormone treatments since then. In June of this year, the hormone therapies stopped working. So, in August, I started Pluvicto radiation therapy. Six infusions, one every six weeks. Pluvicto uses the PSMA mechanism to deliver radiation directly to prostate cancer cells. After the first infusion, PSA increase leveled off. Time will tell on the effect of the remaining infusions.
@jonathanack Thanks, good to know. I was 4+4=8 on biopsy and had I opted for radiation, that is what they would have done. I imagine that this is also the case with Biden.
