Best medication choice after two year Temlos regime
Great results after two years of Temlos. I am scheduled for a 5 mgReclast infusion next week to lock in the gains. After reading all comments on this forum and knowing I have questionable teeth, I don’t want to proceed. Pharmacist suggested Boniva( a bisphosphonate but available in a three month injection, so not a year long commitment) Can’t get an appt with an endo doc for months, and haven’t had any osteoporosis meds for about 6 weeks which is nerve wracking.. Any help is so appreciated regarding my dilemma..

I hope you can do that. Most insurers won't pay for more than two years of Tymlos. 🙁
I did some research on this because I have been on Tymlos and generic Forteo now for 6 months.
A research paper by Dr. Ben Leder states that the antifracture benefit can last up to 18 months after stopping anabolic therapy so hopefully it isn't as bad as you've read.
Here's the link to the paper if you are interested in reading it: https://onlinelibrary.wiley.com/doi/pdf/10.1002/jbm4.10041
It's a very interesting read. I was on Fosamax for over 5 years which apparently is the worst drug to take before an anabolic because it blunts the effect of the anabolic. Evenity is better but there is no way my insurance company would approve it without my going through two years of teriparatide first.
Thank you so much for this info.. I have a zoom call with my PCP on Tuesday and will ask her to call in Boniva so I can hopefully stop any further density loss. I did research on HRT as well and had an out of state doc told me I should definitely be on hormones but I was unable to find a local physician who agreed..
Note that you also can request your doctor to reduce (e.g., halve) the dosage of IV Reclast too. It doesn't have to be 5 mg.
