BCBS Advantage no more Mayo

Posted by budisnothome @budisnothome, Oct 17 11:29am

I received a letter from BCBS stating that my Advantage policy will no longer be available in my zip code, Olmsted County. Rochester, MN in 2026. Has anyone looked at other plans? Mayo website for insurance is not updated, still shows it there. I was grandfathered in when I got medicare in 2015. Has anyone found a comparable plan? Way too many options now vs back then. Any help will be appreciated.

@budisnothome,
There are many changes in Medicare Advantage happening in MN and other states. It is not just BCBS MN, it also effects other Advantage Plans. I am on original Medicare (A, B & D) so I am not effected.

You might want to check out this MN site for advice:

Medicare does have a tool to compare what is available in your area, but I would contact the insurance company and make sure your Mayo location is in network. Mayo's insurance web site is vague and does not list details of all plans. Each company has so many versions of plans, it is hard to verify unless contact insurance company about 2026 coverage.

FOX 9 recently published an article about:

125 Live in Rochester offers classes on Medicare (for fee) to help explain Medicare.

Hopefully other members in same situation will provide their experience. But, I want to mention that Mayo Clinic Connect is a place to share experience. Political discussions often divide us and do not build community. Posts with political opinions will be edited or removed.

This may or may not be of help/interest. I am in Colorado, under United AARP Advantage PPO. In 2026, United AARP is dropping their PPO plans here. If we continue with them, we'd have to switch to the HMO platform. All of our current docs are included but getting referrals may be an issue. Now the challenge is selecting a new plan or reverting back to traditional Medicare with a Medigap and Part D drug plan. My husband has ongoing medical issues that will probably continue thru at least Spring of 2026. We are considering changing him to traditional Medicare and me to a United HMO plan. This insurance thing is daunting.

Go to an Independent Insurance Agent and have them present you with options. You may have to be underwritten and depending upon your health issue/s you may or may not get accepted. Good Luck.

I did hear about the underwriting. I think we may just continue with a United HMO. Thx for the response. I am going to call a few brokers too.

I got a letter from MayoRochester saying they would not be in my United Advantage plan next year. I think the only practical solution is traditional Medicare and a supplement.

@jml6812 yes to the letter from BCBS. I have original Medicare but need to find a medigap policy and a part d drug. Too many options. Waiting for mayo portal response as to when the 2026 plans will get updated on the mayo website before I choose s new plan.

@budisnothome

Well care is good for Part D. Not sure what your med needs are. $9.75 per month for 2026. Is $0.00 for 2025

Probably not going to be many supplements under $200 per month.

We all want Quality, Service, and Low Price. Select any two because you will never get all three.

@hrhwilliam

I've never had any issues with either of my carriers Wellcare for Part D and Cigna-Arlic for supplement. Not sure what you mean by "quality" tho.
