Barrett’s esophagus

Posted by jvanstratten @jvanstratten, Mar 22, 2018

Looking for info and help with Barret’s esophagus. I can’t figure out just how serious this is. I have read way too much online! I don’t really know how strict my diet really has to be. It is really stressful-. Does anyone here have it? And exactly how serious is it?

Read ingredients label on flavored water, if there is acid added stay away from it because it will burn your esophagus on the way down. Stay away from lemons too. If you want to flavor plain water add a few chunks of watermelon. All melons are safe to eat. Ripe bananas are better to eat than new ones. Less acid in them.

@riglemanz64 Yes of course you have to do your research to make sure your not hurting self. My grandson loved watermelon juice . His other grandma would just juice the melon he loved it . Forgot about that ,good reminder I like it too. My girlfriend has Barrett,s but she still drinks a soda once in awhile

Before being diagnosed with BE, I drank 6 sodas a day. I also drank 6 cups of coffee too. I would snack after supper watching tv. I ate before bedtime too. I was really bad not thinking about the consequences. Now I watch it seriously almost overboard! I get my next upper endoscopy in Oct. so I'm hoping it doesn't change.
Soda is the number one enemy!

I have the remnants of a jar of tea that I have saved to try to find more. It was bought in a little tiny store in P.E.I. years ago. It is SO GOOD! Tropical fruit tea... I would give up lots for more! I know soda is out but... baby steps.

@nasale have you tried googling it? I had a tea that I loved and found it through googling. Also Whole Foods has a great variety of specialty teas.

@nasale just need to let you know that @riflemanz64 is the poster child for people with Barrett’s esophagus! None of the rest of us are as good as he is regarding our diets — so you would be wise to follow his example!

@nasale Is this the tea you’re talking about?
Hawaiian Islands Passion Fruit Na Pali Tropical Black Tea, All Natural - 20 Teabags
Found that on amazon. There are other flavors but that one seems to be the most popular.
(I read on a dentist’s website that we should dilute our tea with water to reduce the acidity — and also that fruit teas tend to be more acidic than black and green teas. )

@pdilly That's good to know, that fruit teas can be more acidic. I wonder about chamomile tea. I often have a cup of that before bed. I'm not sure that it does any good in helping me get to sleep, but it can't hurt.
