@eileenmaud I’m very sad with you about your husband. But I want to share my PPI experience with you in case you haven’t seen it in previous posts. I have been taking prevacid for over 20 years. My doc does my blood work every year and I have never had any of the deficiencies that you hear about. I feel very fortunate. I don’t have to take magnesium supplements or get B12 shots even after taking prevacid for 20 years. And before that I took tums all day for at least 10 years. I don’t take any particular vitamin supplement I take a Sam’s Club brand multi vitamin every day.

We’re all different. When I first started reading all of the negative reports about PPIs I was really alarmed. I asked my doc if there were any alternatives. There are not. I will be on prevacid forever because that’s what works for me.

Thank you for all this info. It is my brother and he is doing great now. However, while reading your post it made me think of something. I take Dexilant use to take the purple pill for GERD they say it should only be used temporarily and now insurance won't pay for it to take daily. Have you ever been on either of these. Do you know if they are a PPI also? I am thinking maybe just switching to prevacid over the counter instead. Thoughts?

Gosh this is the second person mentioning my husband passing-he did not pass. It was my brother that was diagnosed with Barretts a view years ago but he is doing fine. I need to look back at my post. Thanks for all the kinds words though.

I have been on Dexilant for over a year, and I have not had any problems. I have had one episode of heartburn but that was my fault by missing the pill. So that tells you how well it works. What is this PPI that you all are talking about? I haven't heard about it at all from any doctor and I have 8, its kind of strange that not one of them have said anything.

PPI stands for Proton Pump Inhibitors medicines for GERD (Prilosec Prevacid Protonix Nexium Dexilant) they are all in the PPI category

Mayo GI doctor put me on the generic... "Esomeprazole Magnesium" 20 mg..

@barb2025 I just googled dexilant and yes, it is a PPI. It is one that has special granules, some that do not release until later so a person who is having GERD has protection for a more extended amount of time.
