Balloon Dialation ETD...

Posted by dazlin @dazlin, 3 days ago

I've seen an ENT, he suggested consulting with another ENT to explore possible Ballon dialation for my eustachian tubes. I'm leaning more to decline it.
I've always had major hearing loss, I wear aides. I know the balloon won't heal damaged nerves...its basically to relieve the pressure im feeling. Also I do think im struggling a bit more for clarity, which again has always been a major factor.
What i did find out...is before any surgery, the cause needs to be addressed 1st...can be allergies, sinus issues, even Gerd.
I'd love to hear if anyone's had this surgery and your experience with it.

If the hair cells are not damaged in your inner ear have the procedure done.
I just wish my hair cells in my inner ear were not damaged.
If that isn’t the case evaluate if the procedure is going to make you function better.
Good luck to you.

I have PETD - 5 yrs. I’ve been to 7 ENTs with no help - I guess they don’t teach ETD in med school!
Last Dr said balloon therapy is no longer recommended.
I wear aides and do the best I can - it’s effecting my hearing big time.
Also, one doc said he could try a hole in ear drum - I asked if it worked and he said not usually !!!

@rosalind308 , did your Dr say why they don't recommend balloon therapy anymore?
So far im still on flonase and Azelastine...no help. Been about 5 weeks.
My hearing test came out the same, but I know im struggling to hear worse than before.
I wouldn't have any puncture to the ear drums or tubes put in.
I'm resorting to live with it.
Just praying to keep the hearing i have.
Best to you as well.

@gerrieme , sorry to hear your going through this...its really terrible.
As a child I had my ear repeatedly punctured either by dr or they bursted from infections...they drained pus and blood for days. I wore cotton balls in my ears to keep them covered and catch the drainage. So that caused alot of damage at a young age. Then my father's side have hearing losses, but not untill their senior year's.
I HATE IT!!
Hope you find help.

@gerrieme I've lost about 83 percent of my hearing...I suffer mostly for speech clarity. The hearing aides help, but not always understanding people talk.
For this last year, im having bad ear pressure, feels like a headcold...can't hear my own voice. Thats why I went to ENT...ill stay on meds awhile longer.
It's been suggested I get cochlear implants....not doing that.
I go Dec 10th for my hearing aide check...ill talk to them more.

@dazlin
My husband got a cochlear and it worked well for many years .my music friend also has one.
It seems there are types
Medicare paid. He had VA but that was harder to get paid for.
You learn to use it and it works. I am not eligible yet.
But I wish I didn't have to ask my friend what people are saying.
With care
Gerrie

I use closed captioning on my phone to catch what I can't understand what people say. It's called Live Transcribe and it's include in Android under the Assistive Technology setting under Settings.

I have hearing aids I highly recommend from Costco. The price was $1,600.00 and there are two receivers, one in my ear and one outside hooked on my ear. They hearing aid specialist was fabulous and they replace my domes for me at no charge every six weeks. The hearing aids have telecoil and bluetooth to my phone. Unfortunately, not many places have telecoil, not even my local Senior Center here in Naples, FL thought to install it when they built the building. Now the large windows make it practically impossible to retrofit.
I also recommend HLAA's tech group for keeping up with technology you can use. I recently read the industry is working on a Bluetooth solution. Wouldn't that be wonderful?
I always tell people I have difficulty hearing and that I am using an assistive device because I have had people become angry with me because they feel I am invading their privacy. I hope some of this information is helpful.

@denisemarys Glad your finding technology helpful.
Interesting info, thank you!
My aides are Phonak $6800. I get Bluetooth in my car...all my calls come through on speaker...I can hear pretty good and clear.
I'm also hooked up to an App from Phonak...which allows calls to go straight into my ears/aides, also very helpful, and of course I can adjust volume. They're like ear buds...I dont even have to talk into my phone during a call.
Again sometimes depends on the callers voice, but majority of time im ok.
I do get major anxiety if I an important call...freak out if I'll hear. If my husband is around I have him on standby, but he can't take the call unless I shut my aides off...no one can hear the call except me...so thats a bit of an inconvenience.
I didn't bother hooking up Bluetooth to my TV....I just always close captions on.
Anyone wearing a mask or not facing me is a problem.
I'm always apologizing and I do explain i cannot hear...I dont want to annoy anyone and yes, it can be verrry annoying to repeat yourself.
I'm hoping for better advancement in hearing aides as I go along. Mine are said to be top of the line and best to suit my needs...still hope when I need news ones there's a breakthrough for all of us 🙏
