Back on Prednisone

Posted by rocksology @rocksology, 3 days ago

Because of HFpEF heart failure, I had to get off of my prednisone quickly. (I addressed this in an earlier post). I successfully tapered and May 30th was my first day with no Pred. The following day I had a SEVERE vertigo attack that took me to ER. I was concerned I had tapered too fast, but they weren't concerned about that. I've been OK since, but I'm just a dizzy broad sometimes!
I've been off the med for 23 days and the pain has escalated to the point I am unable to sleep due to the pain. After two nights of no sleep, I went to Urgent Care in hope of an anti inflammatory injection. They couldn't do it because of my poor kidney function. They contacted Rheumatology who told me to go back on the Prednisone. I really had no other choice, so I came home and took 15 mg, took my last pain pill I have kept stashed away for an emergency and was able to take a 3 hour nap sitting straight up.
I FINALLY was able to make a Rheumatology appointment for the end of July, so I sent my Cardiologist a message that I was back on Pred so that she is aware. I'm changing Primary Care doctors and have my new patient visit next Friday. I'm hoping he will be more proactive with my health than my last one, and will coordinate with my pulmonary, cardiology and rheumatology. That seems to be what my PCP currently doesn't have time to do.
This last flair (or reoccurance after being off Pred) was horrible. It affected my ankles, I had cramps in my knees (knees???) that made my knees weak, my hips, sciatica, couldn't lift my arms to shoulder height, stiff neck and even my scalp was too tender to lay on a pillow! It was terribly hard to get in and out of my vehicle. I absolutely hate PMR.
I also realize that I am getting older and I'm going to have to modify my activities. I really don't like that.
My brain says I'm 35, my body laughs.
