B1 deficiency

Posted by pkh3381 @pkh3381, Feb 22 3:03pm

My neurologist did some comprehensive blood testing and found out that I am severely deficient in B1. Some of the symptoms are fatigue , irritability, nerve damage and tingling in the arms and legs [my neuropathy], blurry vision, nausea and vomiting, depression, a night cough, and various other things. He said it is not a common deficiency because it is normally maintaned thru diet. He asked if I drank alcohol and I don't at all. He said to take a B1 supplement right away and it should quickly get better. Anyone else had this?

Hi @pkh3381. After doing a quick search in the forum I didn’t see any other members with a Vit B-1 deficiency though there are quite a few with Vit B-12 decreases. The symptoms appear to be very similar if the body isn’t getting or processing the B-group vitamins.

While you’re waiting for other members to join into the conversation with their experiences with B-1 deficiency, here’s a little more information on Thiamine deficiency; possible causes and corrections. Sometimes it’s not that your body isn’t getting enough of a vitamin but that the body stops being able absorb the vitamin properly.

Have you started the Thiamine supplements yet?

@loribmt. thank you for your response. Yes the Dr did say that there is likely a problem with absorbtion [I had actually forgotten that]. Thank you for the article. I will definitely read it! Yes, my Thiamine just came yesterday. Thanks again!
