At 77 years old, how much exercise can I do?

I have been attending various exercise groups at the Andover YMCA. Lifting weights and swimming. Sometimes I have muscle soreness but generally the exercise energizes me. The Andover instructors are amazing. Try Body Pump, Group Power, and Forever Well classes. Anyone else doing this?

Awesome! WE have to keep moving and keep on keeping on. I have friends that are younger but much less physically fit. It would be good for them to exercise, lose weight, and be careful with food intake. But, what do you do? I try to set a good example but have bee reluctant to say anything to them about it. One buddy has come to the YMCA with me but only occasionally. He was a wrestler so has a background in athletics. I find it fun to do my best in cardio, body pump, and strength classes. The forty year olds are not easy to keep up with. On Mondays, my wife and I do the EGym, Foreverwell group class, and swim 40 lengths. Wednesdays and Fridays I do a cardio and body pump and swim 40 lengths. Like you, I am much slower but I feel great after!

I definitely agree with all those who keep moving! I’m 86 and can’t do everything I used to but I lift weights and do a lot of balance exercises. I also do line dancing every week and walk outside when the weather permits. Just go with how you feel but don’t stop moving! Good luck!

@howardrlewis My doctor said to never stop moving and keep exercising. I have friends at YMCA who are over 90 who are still exercising.

I’m 86 and am a strong believer age is just a number so don’t dwell on it. I don’t think about my age and get irritated when he keeps asking me how old I am. I wish I could go to the gym but in the house I try to take a few minutes out to lift weights, do squats, wall push ups. I don’t like getting on the floor for any exercises. So I agree with you. The object is to keep moving dancing ,walking climb the stairs etc!

I Live alone and and go to exercise class 3 days a week here at park,
but I slow down if I need to.
I am in a band at my senior park. I get doctors that are
Not a long drive.
I take care of all my house cleaning and gardening.
But it sure doesn't get easier.
I've stopped telling people how old I am. They seem to put me in a "old" box if I do.
Good fortune to you.

You give me inspiration. I also don’t like telling people how old I am. I don’t think about my age to tell me what I can’t do.

I think telling my age is inspirational. My neighbor is 95. I tell her she should always mention her age so people can see what 95 can look like. She and her husband, who is a couple years older, are active [he is more frail] and very interesting to talk to, know about a variety go subjects and "look with it." Age is only a number. It is generally flattering to be asked my age.

Do what you feel comfortable doing! I'm 83 getting close to 84. Two years ago I started using Trulicity then moved to Ozempic and in 18 months lost 30 kilos 66 pounds. In the last nine months, I have been working out in a gym with the various machines 3 days a week for two hours at a time. No I am also drinking 1 liter of Body Armour with electrolytes afterwards. My rhythms are slow and easy. Trying hard not to do cardio--heart problems but I have not felt this good in a long time.
