ASLA / PRK post treatment recovery

Posted by jmendoza1 @jmendoza1, Jul 26, 2023

Hi,

Has anyone had ASLA / PRK?

It’s been 7 weeks and I have had issue focusing with one eye. It is blurry with my right eye. Left eye is pretty clear but still not 20/20 at certain distances.

It was 20/20 vision after one week, but things have gone down hill since then.

Dr has said to wait another month to see if things have stablised but said the right eye has potentially been over corrected but will wait and see how things progress. He has implied the healing process varies which could have impacted the post outcome of the treatment.

I’ll see him again in a few weeks.

In the meantime any advice is welcome!?

Hi @jmendoza1, There is an older discussion where the member did not return after posting a similar question but the response given by one of the moderators has a reference link that might provide you with more information - Photorefractive keratectomy (PRK): Questions about this eye surgery: https://connect.mayoclinic.org/discussion/prk/.

I did find some information on the recovery time here:
"While most patients see very well within a month after the procedure, complete healing can take 3 months."
--- PRK Recovery Time: What to Expect: https://americanrefractivesurgerycouncil.org/prk-recovery-time-what-to-expect/.

Did the doctor give any eye drops to help the healing process?

Just an update in case anyone has a similar issue.

I have 20/20 vision. My eyes took a while to heal and gotten really dry. I was on various eye drops after the procedure, but as things improved and then regressed I was put on FML eye drops. I also started taking omega 3 tablets, less alcohol, drink more fluids and wore one of those eye heat packs in the evening. It took about 2/3 weeks to get to 20/20 after that.

Very happy with the outcome. I was worried it was over corrected, but the eye specialist was confident whole way.

Life changing procedure!!!
