Arthritis after radiation
After arthRadiation Treatments 7 months ago and dealing with side effects my PSA has been undetectable. But I have experienced an upswing in arthritis, is this common?

I had my prostate removed and 6 months later it came back and so I did 5 weeks of radiation. I had not had problems with my hip replacement before that but at week 3 I got to where I had to use a cane. It has been 7 month and it still bothers. That is my story.
I think so. I have pain in my hips that wasn't present pre-radiation. It's manageable with exercise and yoga but is definitely new.
So many patients. So many variables. So hard to say anything definitive.
I can, however, say that I had bilateral hip replacements in 2011 and 2012. At age 72, RP in August 2022, followed promptly by Salvage Radiation Treatment in March - May 2023.
So over 2 years since 66.6 gy radiation to pelvic region and pelvic lymph nodes and no discernable change or increase to my low level, age related arthritis.
As many others have said on many posts, your results may be different.
Best wishes.
Same here, no increase in arthritis pain. When it does occur in my legs- Voltaren gel works wonders- pain is gone for 8-12 hours.
Bone and joint pain is common if you got a course of ADT hormone therapy? Did you get ADT with your radiation?
If asking me; yes, I had a short course of ADT Orgovyx as part of my salvage radiation treatment. No discernable change in mild pre-existing arthritis.
Different possible SE: Over 2 yrs since completing radiation and ADT, my T has recovered.
However, I have "low battery". Daily challenge with fatigue. I walk more slowly and take short 30 - 40 min naps most days.
Of course, I want to dismiss (read "deny") the fact that I am now 75 and have had RP and SRT in the past 3 yrs.
Cool and cold weather = more energy. Heat is challenging.
Very grateful for I where I am. Best to all.
Hi yes I got a 6 month Lupron shot that I’m still getting hot flashes from almost a year later from the shot.
The Arthritis flare up and soreness just in the past 3 months after recovery from radiation side effects .Yes I too have limited get up and go. One project a day and I’m wiped out.
I am almost 73 years old. I had nine weeks of radiation in 2024. I finished up in September. I am on Orgovyx for another year. Arthritis in both hands has flared up. It isn't easy to maintain a decent energy level throughout the day. Some days are better than others. I have also started to gain weight with no increase in food intake. I am actually eating less than I ever have in my life. My oncologist says that all of this is due to the effects of Orgovyx and is not unusual. I am watching my diet and have started an exercise routine.
I too have seen some weight gain back after the other side effects ,it’s really I think this lack of energy is just my lack of Testosterone which has been twice a PSA undetectable for me.
I know there are patches for T but I don’t know much about them or timeline for them.
My oncologist has never mentioned T patches.
Paul , many Dr's are reluctant to use T on a PC person . They are afraid of activating it again. Be very carful about T and its derivatives . Playing with fire here , if not done right . Ask a few Dr's about it ( Urologists )
