Are there a lot of aftercare visits after an Esophagectomy?
I am scheduled to have an Eophagectomy but now I am second guessing it because of distance. I live 100 miles from Mayo. I am wondering how many times a year you have to see your surgeon/care team. I am 77 and this is a long drive for me, and at some point I won't be able to drive, (I have no kids who can help,)

Also, I should have asked, besides saying that you, does Mayo offer it, or how can I find it.
I had immunotherapy after my esophogectomy and it is being delivered by my local oncologist. I still have consultation from Mayo however. The only restriction I had is that Mayo wanted my local oncologist to provide specific care (i.e. hydration, medications, etc.) for any immunotherapy related side effects. So Mayo understands you may need to get local in conjunction with their care. They also are still available as needed for care and expertise.
@patden, I'm not sure if @wputney was referring to a specific program to travel help. I know that the American Cancer Society has a program called Road to Recovery https://www.cancer.org/support-programs-and-services/road-to-recovery.html
Trained volunteer drivers offer free rides. They pick you up, take you to your appointment, and drop you off at home. I'm not sure if there is a mile limit, but it can't hurt to ask. Give them a call 1-800-227-2345.
