Architectural distortion and focal asymmetry, driving myself crazy
I’m 58, had my annual mammogram right after Christmas. Fairly tame history, had a PASH in my right breast about 15 years ago (biopsied and removed, benign) and just one abnormal mammogram since (diagnostic mammo and US showed nothing, repeated at 6 months and clear). Fast forward to now, mammo showed new architectural distortion and focal asymmetry in my right breast (seems to be the trouble maker!). Scheduled for my follow-up mammo and ultrasound in 10 days so of course I can’t think about anything else. I know it’s a slim chance it’s cancer but the size of my AD seems to be significant (Google tells me it’s about 10x the median size) so that has me concerned. I know I can’t get definitive answers here but from the other threads I’ve read I’d feel better hearing from anyone with a similar experience vs more googling. Thanks!

How large was the area of your architectural distortion? Has anyone had an area larger than 4 cm ? Thank you.

It sounds like you have received the results of a mammogram that reported architectural distortion but haven't had a chance to review it with your doctor yet. Do I have that right? Do you have an appointment scheduled?

2 Reactions@aldy43 on my imaging report there is a circle drawn around the AD and states 17.99cm2 (ERMF). Not sure if that's helpful. I've had a diagnostic mammogram, ultrasound and biopsy since then. No malignancies found but I do have an intraductal papilloma (reason for the AD) that I'll have removed in a few weeks. My surgeon said there is less than a 3% chance it's cancer so I'm definitely less worried now but there's still a little anxiety if I let myself think about it. Have you met with your doctor yet?
