Anyone with ITP get (a lot) better platelet counts following surgery

Posted by thisfatoldlady @thisfatoldlady, Nov 17 5:38pm

I've had chronic ITP for about 3 years now. I needed total knee replacement surgery and it took 2 months to get my platelets high enough for the surgery to take place. My average platelets then was in the 50-60 range and increasing my eltrombopag got it up to 70+.

Since surgery my platelets went through the roof. As high as 349! 6 weeks past surgery, and my platelet count is in the 150s. Very strange stuff. Anyone else have this experience?

I didn't see anything like that big of a spike, but I did see that my platelet count stabilized higher than it had been while I tapered off prednisone after surgery (for a while). I saw that I had been given dexamethasone during surgery and wonder if that had an effect on my counts. (I had THR).
