Anyone want to share your experience on Metformin?

A1C?
Weight?
Good decision?
Thanks

I've been taking it forever, 1000mg daily.
A1c is okay. It'd probably be better if I had more discipline.
My weight has been stable for 15 years.
No bad side effects from it.
I don't like medication, but metformin is an old friend.

I didn't start metformin until after 23 years of controlling BG with Diet and Exercise. Took extended-release version (easier on stomach). Never did nearly as much for my BG (and weight) as diet and exercise. So I continued D & E, and added Glipizide a year later -- which helped a little bit more.

Sounds like almost no impact at all. Thanks for contributing. Sounds like I shouldn't expect much.

I've been taking Metformin tablets (1000 per day) for 8 yrs. Highest A1C was 6.5. The last several years it has been stable at 5.7. I've not had any issues with taking it

When I was first diagnosed I was given metformin along with stronger stuff, with diet, exercise, and maybe some good luck I've managed to get rid of the stronger stuff and just stayed on metformin for years now.

No effect on weight as such. With the metformin, diet, and exercise my A1C has generally stayed below 5.7 so I've experimented with cutting the dosage, and have occasionally forgotten to take a dose, so I can report it seems to reduce blood glucose readings by ten points or so, and if I had to stop taking it I could probably still keep my A1C close to where it is - but couldn't cheat on the diet as often, LOL. Missing one dose generally has little or no effect.

The only issue is that it sometimes keeps you hopping towards the toilet more often than is convenient but even long before I was diagnosed with diabetes I sometimes had bits of such "irritable bowel" as well so I don't know how much to blame the met.

I took metformin for at least 20 years. It didn’t affect my weight, but my blood sugar was regularly within normal ranges for a diabetic. Eventually, it stopped working for me. I had to go on a GLP, and have lost enough weight to register below A1C @ 7. I recommend it.

I've been taking Metformin for about 8 years. I've been able to cut the dose in half (now take 850 mg once/day) and my A1C is about 5.4. Good luck and God bless everyone!
