Anyone here go to Northwestern in Chicago?
I’ve been looking into getting a second opinion on my bronchiectasis and MAB, I found the 37 bronchiectasis and NTM approved clinics in the United States, and Northwestern in Chicago is the closest one to me. Just wondering if anyone has experience there that they can share. I see two doctors have specialties in both!

I see dr Zinn at lake forest. Someone mentioned dr Flaherty. There is also dr naurekas at the university of Chicago. Painful drive to downtown Chicago- construction
I see Dr Winslow at Evanston hospital. He’s been great.
Oh yes, it’s been painful driving from NW Indiana to Chicago to Rush, but I’m thankful there seem to be docs that have good experience at Northwestern. It’s a little bit easier for me.
Thank you. Nice to know the options!
Hi Cydanna. I also live in NW Indiana and am being treated at Northwestern. Was diagnosed via bronchoscopy there. My Interventional Pulmonologist who did it was Sean Smith and he was great. My pulmonologist is Manu Jain and because of his ineptitude I am trying to get into the University of Chicago. I strongly advise you from seeing him. My Infectious Disease doctor is Dr Haresa. I am up in the air about him because at our first appointment he was pushing The Big Three rather than trying ACTs, breathing exercises, nebulizer, etc. I’m of the opinion that trying the least harmful treatment should be tried before going to the big guns. That’s just my opinion. Based on my experiences there (NW), I would advise the UofC first. I’m trying to make the switch right now.
Oh my goodness, I am so glad to get your message. After being mishandled in NW Indiana and now Rush, I had very high hopes for NW since they are an approved clinic. I was about to go to Denver to National Jewish. They were able to get me in right away and I will be there Monday. Thankfully not to the pulmonologist you named. The infectious disease doctor at Rush had already started putting together an antibiotic program for me, and this morning I am in such a bad way that I’m wondering if I should go ahead and go through with what he was putting together though I’m also establishing myself at NW. He said he’s worked with Pulmonologists there before. I’ve been doing airway clearance for a few months now, and I’ve had one exacerbation after another. I am not a drug person at all, and against the overuse of antibiotics, but this bacteria I have is colonizing fast, and I don’t think I have an alternative. This past week was very scary as I could not breathe in or out several times, and feared I needed to go to the hospital… but you know the hospitals around us. They wouldn’t know what to do. Thank you for sharing your experience! Please keep me updated on University of Chicago.
