So Charcot is a complication from diabetes that causes the bones in your foot to become brittle and break apart turn to mush and absorb into your body. It deteriorates your bones and makes it so you can’t bare weight on you foot. Right now I am restricted to crutches and a knee scooter and it’s zero weight-bearing on my foot for the foreseeable future. this is very much an uncommon complication and hard to find anyone that’s even heard of it.

@larsonj66 welcome to Mayo Clinic Connect. I’m a 51 + years diabetic and have had it drilled into me to routinely check my feet, use proper technique for nail care and wound care, get well fitting socks and shoes ….. In addition to those usual things I’ve found it helpful to find a podiatrist that has training and experience working with diabetics. I found one for treatment of a wart I discovered. It was a difficult treatment but resolved well. In a few weeks I’m returning for treatment of a painful callous. Have you been diagnosed with Charcot Foot and have you found treatment?

Yes I was diagnosed in January with Charcot and have seen several doctors in Duluth and at mayo. Mayo will not treat me unless I move to Rochester. So I’m just seeing doctors local and it’s an absolute nightmare.
