Anyone have your feet bruising from inside/under the skin out?

Posted by cb3 @cb3, May 16 9:09am

This has been a difficult question for me to pose. And I'm not sure how to word it. Okay, let's start here. I have chronic nerve pain on the lower right side of my body. And I am not diabetic. My feet, especially my right foot, have all the symptoms of peripheral neuropathy ... but not the same symptoms every day, and not with the same painful annoyance each day.

In this past year, I have noticed something strange about the appearance of my right foot (the top). I show what looks like bruising, yet I know 100% I didn't hurt my foot. I didn't bang it or drop anything on it. And the smaller toe next to my big toe, on my right foot, has a line of pink bruising across it, and it's not from my shoes because I am very careful about what goes on my feet. And I didn't injure that toe.

I've observed and analyzed many variables pertaining to my feet, and what I come up with is alarming. I feel I am bruising from the inside of my foot, out. Is that possible? These are not varicose veins. They are bruises. And they are pinkish. Yet they don't turn yellow or blue or purple like bruises do. And the bruising is not there every day. Has anybody experienced this? Best CB

I also have bruising on both of the sides of my feet, and they are purple in color.
That is where my foot pain hurts the most.
I will address it at my next foot doc appt in 2 weeks.

Hello @cb3, I moved your discussion to the Neuropathy support group as you mentioned you have peripheral neuropathy and there are many members in this support group have dealt with issues with their feet. Here is a quick search in the neuropathy group and issues with feet, https://connect.mayoclinic.org/group/neuropathy/?search=feet&index=discussions.

@cb3, do you have an appointment with your specialist scheduled? You did post your discussion in the Chronic Pain group, are you experiencing a lot of pain relating to your bruising?

No Justin, I don't have pain on top of my foot from bruising. The bruising just seems to pop up from time to time from what appears to be from under the skin. The side (of the top) of my right foot is a little sore right now, but only when I palpate it.

I'm beginning to believe that the majority of the pain throughout my body comes from lumbar radiculopathy cause by lumbar multilevel degenerative disc disease. And that was caused from treatment of cancer 10 years ago. I may or may not need another MRI to see if my spine has gotten worse. Right now I am playing guinea pig with 300mg of Alpha Lipoic Acid, in major hopes this product will help with inflammation and pain. I also take several supplements and use pain relieving gels, and copper belts.

It's very difficult for me to explain my discomfort because I have pain that comes and goes in various parts of my body. But the neuropathy and hip joint pain stays. I see my PA next week and may ask for a referral to my DPM. I believe PT will help, especially the stretch exercises. Thanks for your interest. Best, CB

Hello CB,
I have peripheral neuropathy in both feet. I do not have diabetes. My mother had this same diagnosis, and I found out at her funeral that both of her brothers have non-diabetic P.N.. I have been tested for many many diseases over the past 24 years, and the doctors always comes back to the same diagnosis of my having fibromyalgia and chronic pain syndrome. I have had this same bruising in my feet over the years, I am 59 now but the bruising has been happening off and on for 10 years. Your doctor may have answers for this mystery. I would love to know what that result is. I have just started Nervive for the alpha lipoic acid that it contains. I have heard about it for years now. Take care.

Hi charliegirl. (Love that name) So you do consider this a mystery. I feel the same way. And your bruising is on and off, just like mine. There has to be an answer. Did the doctors say what caused your fibromyalgia and chronic pain syndrome? I know my pain stems from radiation and chemo. I'm going to lean on PT to help me get better. I did a lot of stretching at my last PT appointment and it seemed to help me walk through the store with less pain. I need to get motivated to check out Yoga groups on Youtube. My body has responded to stretching so I'm going to take that as a message from my body, telling me to get with it. Shall we call it body talk? Have an excellent day. If I find out anything next week, I'll post it. Best, CB

Not bruising on or under feet, but I get bruised the top of my rear-end by falling down… now and then
