Anyone have chronic back pain from hip problems>
Have been to 3 back surgeons with chronic back pain. Had MRIs of thoracic and lumbar which looked fine. Third surgeon wanted MRI of cervical and found problem at C5 C6. Will be having neck surgery. In meantime PT referred me to a masseuse who asked if anyone had inquired about my hips. She says this could be causing back pain. Any experience with this?

I had a hip replacement several years ago and still have pain mostly with trochanter bursitis. They never tell you about this before replacement. I have to get steroid injections every 3 to 4 months.
@ichbindck I might be a poster child for this exact situation. I was treated for back pain for years, with PT and x-ray guided injections. When the pain clinic suggested surgery for spinal stenosis, my PCP took notice and ordered hip x-rays.
Fast forward - the orthopedic surgeon said I had severe deterioration in both hips - he thought he was going to meet someone 85 years old - and here I was - a 54yo slender female. I spent 5-6 years, untold hours and many dollars being treated for the wrong thing!
It is certainly worth a couple x-rays and evaluation by an orthopedic surgeon.

I have had 2 cervical spine and 1 lumbar spine decompression/fusion surgeries (in my mid 50s). I also had/have hip/buttock pain. If you haven’t, it would be good to get X-rays of hip joints and MRIs of both hips to look at soft tissue injury. In addition to all of my spine issues, they found bilateral gluteal tendinopathy and bilateral high grade partial hamstring tears on MRI. It could all be connected due to biomechanics.
Ask to get X-rays/MRI of hips by an orthopedic hip specialist. You could incorporate this information into your PT program.
You do know that long term use of steroids causes more harm than good right?
I had spinal fusion surgery at the C5-C6 level a few years ago, followed by another procedure at the C7-T1 level a couple of years later. It's one of the reasons I can't sleep laying down anymore.
I also have osteoarthritis in my lower back, with mild spinal stenosis that causes pain in my hips whenever I walk or stand for more than a few minutes. Or is the arthritis in my hips causing the back pain? The doctors can't really answer that question.
