Anyone had an ablation for lower back pain

I’ve had low back pain for 2 years. Pain injections did no good. Any good results with ablation

Were the 2 prior injections like an ablation? What were they and after the ablation that worked, how long before relief? I had an ablation and have gotten no relief.

The two injections were different medications a cocktail of sorts. The ablation was of more than one nerve bundle at L4/5 I had a bit up an increase in pain for a few weeks, but then felt fantastic.

I have had 2 ablations. The first one lasted 2 years and the second one helped only 25%. The Dr wants me to have another Ablation soon but I am skeptical about having another one for my lower back pain. Dr talking about my having spinal cord stimulator inserted in my back. I am almost 84 and the Dr said that I am too old to have a fusion done on my back but that is what I need. My back is full of arthritis and my back is twisted. I don’t know what to do.

Sometimes you need to have a couple ablations in the same spot to work. Also, there are two types of ablations one is heat and one is pulse. The pulse one did not work at all on me only the heat. Also, my pain management doctor would only do Three levels at a time. So that meant I had to go back to get the other lumbar levels done. There are also other treatments like epidurals and steroid injections. I loved my fusion surgery, but I am looking at returning for the other areas that were not done six years ago. It was wildly successful. A friend of mine had it done on her back at 80 years old. I don’t know about you but surgery requires a big investment to recuperate. At 84 you would have to be willing to engage in a lot of exercise or the doctor is right to not recommend fusion surgery. There are other things you can try like deep my facial tissue release (MFR.) it’s like a really painful massage, but it gets down there where the muscles are out of whack because of your spine being out of whack and there is of course exercise. People discount “core“ exercise but when you have nothing else to try, it’s really amazing. The only time I did not take narcotic pain reliever was when I got into a great Pilates yoga class that worked on my lumbar core for nine months. Unfortunately, I could not keep it up and it was easier for me to have surgery at a certain point. Good luck!

I've had so many over 20 years I've lost count but I have them because they work. Some better than others and some longer than others but many have helped enough for me to continue playing sports into my 40's. It only helps me with a very specific pain but eventually the arthritic facets seem to offer too much pain for the nerve ablation to work as well as it once did, but without them my life would be even worse. There are many, many, many sources of lumbar pain. This helps with but one source and after so many years of treatment, I know exactly which one that is and that is my L5-S1 facet. Less helpful for L3-L4 and L2-L3 but, on me, they are less damaged and need less help. So I recommend them, especially in the early stages because they kept me moving. Eventually, as your disks collapse and wear a way to nothing the facets have no choice but to bear more weight and movement.

Unfortunately, my ablation for lower back pain was not successful. Sorry.

I have had the ablation done. For me personally, it worked for 3 weeks. I've known others that it worked great!

My husband had ablation on his lumbar spine area, one on each side and then ablation on his sacroiliac joint on one side. He was pain free for a year. He is scheduled to repeat all three as the nerves have grown back together. Ablation allowed him to function again.
