Anyone getting rage from a patient on predniSONE.

My wife of 24 years raged at me last night and this morning. Is in denial of her weight gain and wants to take a pre op med first thing in the am, despite the Co-ordinating nurse, and the schedule saying at 8am. She is a Southern Woman and has ever been shy, but this is a full on screaming attack each time.

I'm so sorry to hear this! That must be awful for you and also for your wife. She's obviously upset about things and doesn't quite know how to handle things that irritate her. I would suggest that you just hug her and tell her how much you love her and have for 24 years! She's obviously scared of her medical situation. That might calm her down a little as I'm sure she loves you too. Tell her that everything will be fine and that you will always be there for her. Also don't mention her weight gain. Women are very sensitive about that. I know. I'm an 80 year old woman and I don't want people to suggest that I'm overweight.

Prednisone does have a lot of side effects. That might be causing some of the problem with her anger. My mother and my husband both took Prednisone when they were ill and each had different severe side effects with it. Could you talk to her doctor about Prednisone or any other medication she's taking? Also read the side effects of each medication and over the counter supplements like vitamins that she is taking. You can easily find this information on the Mayo Clinic website. Whatever you find out, don't have her stop taking any medication until you talk to or see her doctor. Sometimes stopping a medication if it's not done correctly can cause worse problems. The doctor will know how to discontinue a medication if that's what is needed to be done.

Prayer also helps. Just ask God for help. He made your wife and he can fix her! I'll say a prayer for both of you.

My wife is not scared of her medical situation, she knows 100% exactly what is going on, and indeed persuaded the coordinating nurse to re-schedule one of her meds to her liking, as she has been taking that med for 30 years...
We were well briefed about the side effects (moody), but this was full blown roid rage. However the two issues she was upset about have already been resolved.
She currently is back in the Mayo getting a sodium IV, as it is very low... Otherwise she is doing great, 2 days ago she walked 1000 yards... Oh and her meds in 10 days have been altered 4 times...
